Border security is not about land ownership

Or maybe I'm missing your point

Like I said, do you worry about how someone across town is going to handle security? I went to Busch Gardens yesterday. I didn't have to worry about how they set up their security, or how they kept out those who shouldn't be there. I also didn't have to pay for that except for the time I was there.

It's very much about land ownership and land management.

How many Hispanics have served and died in America's fake war on terror? No idea?

Let me help.

Just a tad over 10% of the casualty rate were Hispanic and 6% of those wounded were Hispanic.

So much for your they aren't loyal to America BS.

Even working on the assumption that all of these soldiers joined for patriotic reasons (rather than job security, benefits etc) there is such a large number of Hispanics that of course we see US loyalty. One of my best buddies is from Mexico and is evidence of this.

Do you remember the May 1st marches that were largest in 2006? Hundreds of thousands marched in Los Angeles alone. CNN interviewed the leader of this movement and they asked him if these protesters for amnesty waving Mexican flags and chanting in Spanish was good for the cause. They pointed out that most Americans could not identify with that position and why not wave American flags and chant in English so Americans can understand? The leader response was that he identified as a Mexican in America (despite his US citizenship and education) and not a Mexican American. He's one man, sure, but he was the chosen leader of the movement and the crowd seemed to have the same mind set.

Had they had American flags up front and used English to make their point, I guarantee the reaction would be much more favorable.

May be. But I think that has always been true. I bet it was said about the Italians, the Irish, etc

Very different times now, though. Most Europeans came over knowing they would never see their home countries again. The Atlantic crossing was either too dangerous or too expensive.

Now we have a cars, planes and an unsecured border with a near limitless population. This makes assimilation far more optional. My buddy is from Peru and his family had been here 15 years when I first met him. His dad's English was pretty good but his mom's was awful. I'd ask her what she did that day and she'd reply "fine. "

I know it's hard to learn another language but with 15 years to try, Internet access etc, it is most doable now than at any other time in history. The point is assimilation is far more optional now than it was for those European immigrants.

This is only for white people from Europe I guess

No - it is for people who immigate in a legal, orderly fashion.

Not for invaders who disregard our laws and procedures - regardless of how much I might sympathize with their plight.

Let me as you a question - Is it for everyone? Can all 5 1/2+ billion non-Americans on Earth come here?

Lol behind the entire premise of the OP.

You are so entirely naive, uninformed, and shallow thinking it's sad. Amazing how threads like this grow so large

You answered the question yourself. One careless, ill thought out OP.

Ten pages of corrective comments (with some name calling interspersed).

End result? No change. Life on the Poliboard.

I think it's accepted that chat boards are for entertainment and not changing worlds.

Not trying to change the world.

Informing an opinion would be nice every once in awhile.

ETA: Mostly I come for the entertainment though.

Moreover, people USED to come her with the GOAL of "becoming American". Unfortunately, now, if you say that should be their goal, you're called a bigot.

Figured that within the first two pages someone would have straightened him out unless he's too stubborn so see his mistake. I also figured by page 8 I could vent my frustration at his childish, sassy post rather than trying to cite a couple articles on my mobile.

I see the Poliboard from the perspective of Free Speech Alley at LSU. Does not mean a person will have a well formed opinion or even desire a better understanding of their particular position. They just want a forum and an audience.
