This is absolutely correct and the core problem.

BUZZ! Sorry. Thanks for playing.

Go back and check US immigration policies from the late 1800s and early 1900s. If you were sick when you hit the shore, you didn't get off the ship. Same if you did not have someone who was going to hire you. Plus other restrictions.

You can only have one of these.

A nanny welfare state laden with entitlements and a severely restricted/controlled border with strict immigration policy.

An open border with no welfare state and no/little entitlements.

Socialism and open borders do not mix at all and they always end in disaster. You can't have it both ways.

Does Japan have an open door policy? Does any country on earth have an open door policy? Wouldn't you say that right now, the United States of America has the most open door policy in the world?

NO reasonable person is against immigration, just against forced illegal immigration. Anyone can come here legally.

What in the world is forced illegal immigration?

Also, what is the net benefit to legal entry?

Is this the serious question you ask to get someone to understand acceptance of illegal entry into your country?

No, I'm just curious as to what the benefit is. I mean, low skilled workers that enter the country illegally usually work under phony documents, and they pay into the system. I'm just wondering what benefit their is to legal entry. Administrative fees get paid? Idk. What's the benefit.

We should treat immigrants like we treat Red Snapper. Set the limit at 2 for the season, make the season two weeks and throw the rest back.

The benefit is knowing who and when someone enters your country. In a this day and age of border security being at a premium to keep HOMELAND security, why the change of heart to allow anyone into the country for reason of 'what benefit is legal immigration?'. You might actually have a head count and know who these people are and protect the country like the HOMELAND people are supposed to be doing.

Legal vs Illegal J.J. that is the point. We are supposed to be a nation of laws. When people cross the border illegally the are lawbreakers. When the government refuses to protect the borders they are in violation of the constitution. Why do liberals see the world as they wish it could be and as it is?

Listen to this man.

Without law, we have chaos. They have a system to become legal citizens. Use it.

You mock America all the time yet you attempt to use this. You need to reinstate your self-imposed ban.

Well you're already living in a surveillance state. You could streamline the immigration process and make it cheap if you're really worried about keeping a head count. Right now we're essentially incentivizing people to enter illegally.

I don't know if you could ever really close up the border. Not without great cost at least.

And this is missing the real issue: public property. It's not really public at all. It's in the control of a few and it's subsidize by many. If the land along the border were in truly private hands, this wouldn't be an issue.
