I've said this for a while, when violence starts, it's going to be citizen v. citizen.
And when it happens, troops would be called in, just like in other periods post-Civil War when there was widespread civilian violence or threat of violence, like the Rock Springs Massacre, the Little Rock Crisis, and other events.

The question becomes at what point are servicemen non-compliant with orders? That's when a government really loses effective legitimacy.

If federal troops fire on non-violent protesters, then they can lose legitimacy fast, leading to non-compliance. The government has no interest in losing control of the situation or encouraging violence between citizens or against federal troops. Hence I don't think a situation where federal troops are called in to keep the peace would result in non-compliance, given that non-compliance has not occurred during the other events where federal troops were called.
There might be civil unrest but it's so unlikely that real civil conflict would erupt in the country, as the consequences of that conflict would be worse than dealing with disparate factions through normal means.

Encouraging left/blue controlled areas to separate in their own self-interest is the best possible way for us to reach a peaceful reconciliation. A Californian secession is, really, the best possible thing for us both, if it is allowed to happen.
The more amicable way for that to happen would be to cede more power to the states. But that's somewhat of a slow transition.

With all the talk of civil war on this board a more reasonable person might just conclude that there are a lot of crazy people here
Just reading the first page of this thread pretty much verifies that

They won't. Our President said this morning its going to be a red wave. And it will because he's out there personally campaigning.

Yea, sure man. About same chance of some trumpkin nut case firing the first shot.
Civil war happens the same time the avengers have a fight on the mall in DC.

Also, the OP legitimately said he looks forward to shooting liberals when they start a civil war. That remains a very strange thing to anticipate with glee. That has nothing to do with Marxism or the Founding Fathers.

I think it is entirely possible to have a peaceful division.
I used to think that, but the reality is that the left doesn't want a peaceful division because they want to rule you, own your productivity, and tell you how to live. Government-Americans don't want a peaceful division because it would reduce the amount of power and money they control.
