Focus On The Family has raised over $515 Million over the past five years, making it one of the most well funded anti-LGBTQ organizations in America. They invest in public education campaigns against LGBTQ equality, while their related organization CitizenLink supports radical anti-LGBTQ candidates who work against basic civil rights and legal protections
civil rights? nah. Can you name any that aren't related to marriage (which is extremely logical based on their mission related to traditional marriage).
quote:
- Focus On The Family promotes the harmful and discredited practice of “conversion therapy,” claiming “just as there are many paths that may lead a person to experience same-sex attractions, there are likewise multiple ways out.” For years, they were behind Love Won Out, a national tour preaching that same-sex attraction is ‘preventable and treatable.’
This isn't accurate. Conversion therapy implies that they believe it can be "cured". That's not what they do. They offer counseling for people who want to live a spiritual life in congruence with God's will.
These is their stance on the subject:
quote:
As an unapologetically Christian organization, we believe sexuality is a gift from God designed to be stewarded according to the principles He has outlined in Scripture. As part of that understanding, we believe in and support the availability of professional counseling in matters of sexuality that is respectful, safe, ethical and responsive to the client’s values and desires.
That right of individuals to seek assistance in living within biblical guidelines is increasingly at risk, as various legislative bodies have or are attempting to criminalize such help. They do so often by citing outlandish examples—real or imagined—of unethical therapy. For the record, we at Focus do not advocate for any therapy that “requires” or promises categorical change or sexual conversion. We especially denounce any practice that shames, degrades, coerces, abuses, or insults individuals with demands to earn basic human acceptance.
God’s love guides our response to this issue. Every human possesses inherent dignity and is of immeasurable worth. Individuals with unwanted homosexual attractions or gender concerns often suffer stress, family strain, depression, anxiety, and questions that are deeply perplexing.
As such, we believe in empowering individuals for health and realistic living toward their goals. For some, this includes therapeutically investigating their sexuality and exploring faith-compatible responses for their individual situation. Of course, we recognize that our values aren’t everyone’s values. But we believe the availability of respectful, safe, ethical counseling in matters of sexuality honors all clients by allowing them to receive meaningful help that aligns with their values.
quote:
- Focus On The Family opposes allowing same-sex couples to adopt, saying the children of gay and lesbian parents are “human guinea pigs” in the “same-sex family experiment.”
I agree with this and believe it is a very reasonable position.
quote:
- Focus On The Family believes that they know better than psychiatrists – actual doctors – when it comes to treating transgender people. They called trans people “mentally ill” suffering from a “devastating condition.” They also believe that living according to their affirmed gender identity ignores reality “like Cinderella in a fantasy world.”
Transgender people are most certainly "mentally ill" and that's supported by a ton of clinical opinions. Certainly this is a reasonable opinion.

In-house read their “stance”, it’s just another way of advocating
Conversion therapy.

Point is, from FOF’s point of view they are helping LGBTQ people by leading them away from sin and saving their souls.
You may disapprove of FOF, but it’s dishonest to claim they hate people they don’t hate.

Is it really love to pretend that a persons self destructive lifestyle is ok and promote it?
I don't think so.
I don't think so.

You like steak, but Joe thinks eating meat is bad for you, so he lobbies to outlaw meat. Joe is on your side.
Or would it be more appropriate that Joe just doesn't want people eating meat at his dinner table in his house. And if Joe starts a farm to grow soybeans and garden vegetables, he does not want the government to require him to slaughter cattle, as well.
