A federal judge granted expanded use of mail-in ballots for the November election, ruling Wednesday that Louisiana must allow voters to cast ballots by mail if they certify they are quarantining for COVID-19 or at risk because of underlying health conditions.

In the ruling, Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick called Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin’s efforts to change the successful emergency election plan for the July and August elections “bumbling attempts to fix what was not broken.”

Governor Edwards stated:

“Today’s ruling is a huge victory not only for the health and safety of the people of Louisiana, but also for their voting rights and our democracy. No one should have to risk their health or their life to vote, and I am relieved that the court agrees. Simply put: COVID-19 remains a serious problem in Louisiana and voting should not be a super spreader event.

What percentage of those who claim they can’t vote in person because of health concerns would show up at the same polling station for $100?

Ironically, this ruling comes out as the State moves to "Phase 3" because the COVID numbers are doing so well, with just under 2 months before the election.

But those same people can go demonstrate or go to a party or restaurant and feel safe?

Why would in person voting be a super spreader event if we are socially distanced and wearing masks?

Are those measures not effective? And if not why the frick are we still doing them?

Same percentage that voted for JBE in EBRP and Orleans I would guess.

Will the 5th Circuit have time to overturn her ruling is the million dollar question.

So, surely this involves a note from a Dr. or the Health Dept, right?

But Fauci said we were safe to go to polls as long as we wear a mask.

Unless everything is shut down, polls should be open... When they shut everything down and allow no one to leave their homes, then I might support this type of thing...

Until then, they can stop by the polls on their way home from Wal-Mart...

I thought the Louisiana congress passed a law on this? The alleged pandemic does not override the law or the constitution. Wtf?

The current absentee ballot rules cover this with the "restricted to bed by my physician" language. This allows the individual to self certify.
