Russian to Plead Guilty in Oil and Gas Facility Hack
Artem Revensky, a Russian national arrested in the United States on charges of involvement in hacking critical oil and gas infrastructure systems in the United States and Europe.
Revenskiy, known in the cybercriminal community as Digit, was charged in early April by federal prosecutors in California with conspiracy to cause damage to protected computer systems, wire fraud, and identity theft, Bloomberg reports.

According to the prosecution, Revensky was part of the Russian government-backed hacker group Sector16.

Prosecutors stated that Sector16 targeted countries "perceived as hostile to the Russian authorities."

According to prosecutors, in January 2025, Sector16 gained control of oil pumps and storage tanks at a facility in Texas (the exact location was not disclosed). Within a year, the group also hacked an oil and gas facility in North Dakota, after which they devised a plan to sell access to it to Russian authorities. Facilities in New York and Pennsylvania were also hacked.
Revenskii faces a prison sentence of up to 27 years.
