Populist would be fine
Populism is necessary, the establishment is broken and infested with swamp creatures (academic and gov lifers).
Does that mean having to bribe the mob (voters)? Yeah. But that’s also necessary. The notion we can have a society with complete anarcho-libertarian rule is insane. Our society is bad at long term planning, most people dont save for retirement. If you think getting rid of social security / Medicare/medicaid with no alternative would fly, you will wake up with a hungry mob with pitchforks.
The free market is also not flawless, and like the humans making the decisions in the private sector it skews to prioritizing short term performance. Just look at publicly traded companies who value quarterly results above all, it’s why Koch said they will never take their company public. We shipped our industry overseas and imported millions of cheap 3rd world labor just so we could maximize returns over a 30 year period while selling out our people in the long term.
We need to reform social security and other entitlements but it’s impossible to cut them entirely. With populism there are paths to reform by piggybacking movements like MAHA and FIRE/Ramsey into political power.
If people are being honest, what do they think is more realistic:
Food stamps being eliminated
Or food stamps having requirements attached (I.e only cheap healthy foods like rice, cabbage, carrots, pork/chicken/turkey instead of beef)?
That’s why I’m a populist.
