Uh... yeah we did.
If we held the technology advantage that we have today, and didn’t need to advance to air striking distance , the results would have been the same. Their ships and island fortresses would not be supplied and would have withered in the pacific.
As it was, we skipped numerous island because we didn’t need them for our objectives.
Distance is no longer an issue. Their defenses are of no concern.
