Is this another word that is now considered racist? I can’t keep up. We need a website that lists all words that are off limits (only to conservatives though - leftists can continue to say anything they want).

Well I do realize that. I just always took using it in this way to mean something more. Like it's assumed the 30 pounds of silver given to Judas may have been shekels and the money changers assaulted by Jesus were using shekels. When used as an insult, that's the connotation I get. These are examples of sellouts & traitors in the Bible, and using the term shekels, in my view, is an attempt to equate the person with sellouts & traitors because this was clearly a Jewish coin that was probably used in these incidents.
