The rule allows for unlimited imports of asbestos until a decision is actually made on said proposed rule. Wrap your mind around that for a minute.
Brings back memories of this gem:

@realDonaldrump: if we didn't remove incredibly powerful fire retardant asbestos & replace it with junk that doesn't work, the World Trade Center would never have burned down.

Is asbestos always harmful?
ETA: There is no subtext to my question. Genuinely interested. Let's all learn together!

No, and it is still used today (brake pads)

Its harmful to breathe little bits of it.
Similar to that much radium in your bronchi.
Cancer.
Other than that, its fine.
When you break up a thin object with asbestos within it, the little bits are inhaled.
Death warrant is soon served.

That's OK. The lawyers have moved on to Mesothelioma and Baby Powder.

Personal injury attorneys everywhere are thanking Satan for this EPA decision.

Sounds like soi boi propaganda baw. President Trump is on record stating that asbestos poisoning is a Mob created conspiracy. I wish I was making that up.

False, NO ONE makes absentees brake pads any more. That's no comment on whether asbestos is always harmful, but factually you can't buy asbestos brake pads.

You might not like it but he is correct. Asbestos is still used in extreme high heat applications. You probably think it is some man made nasty chemical when it is actually a naturally occuring mineral which is an excellent insulator.
But hey.. cry like a bitch when there is something you heard about once comes up and you think you know something about it.

Yes you may die from simply breathing in your building but in the off chance 9/11 happens again your building won’t burn.

Asbestos is back?
Wait till Cousin Eddie hears this news.
Things haven't been the same since he "got laid off when they closed that asbestos factory, and wouldn't you know it, the army cuts my disability pension because they said that the plate in my head wasn't big enough."

Not everyone exposed to asbestos gets related diseases or cancers.
There are people that used to handle raw asbestos on a daily basis that never have symptoms or illnesses related to exposure.
Certainly, there's an increased risk if you are exposed, but it is not absolute or a guaranteed death sentence.

My understanding of asbestos is that the initial harm to individuals was born out of a lack of understanding of the potential danger and how to install and remove the material properly.
With better understanding should come less risk. At least I hope so.
