Unfortunately, a global pandemic is inevitable. What and when is the only question. Most likely a extremely virulent flu strain. In areas with access to modern medicine, the death tolls won't be as bad.

Well, if they could shoehorn you out your door, you might come in contact with someone other than the Rascal repairman too.

notiger1997, you might not be aware of this, but a doctor and a nurse with ebola were flown to Atlanta this summer (and successfully treated), and a doctor is currently "under observation" at the National Institutes of Health.

Even the most knowledgeable and cautious of the lot are contracting the disease, which flies in the face of the CDC's nonchalance.

From a CDC standpoint, lack of quarantine in this instance approaches incompetence levels of the Secret Service allowing a man to jump a fence, trot across the WH lawn, go through the front door, and proceed to the East Room. It's awful.
I actually have no problem with that. Now letting a felon with a gun get on an elevator with the President. Yikes!

All flights in and out of affected African countries should cease immediately. And anyone who goes to African countries that have Ebola outbreaks and returns to America is an a-hole

Does that include the military people Obama is ordering into Africa?

I'll ask again. How many people did you come in contact with in the last 5 days?

1000? 5000?
I think CptBengal just stands in the middle of a crowded train station like the superhero in Unbreakable. But unlike Bruce Willis, he just does it for fun.

Just kidding CptBengal, but I think your count is a bit high for direct contacts.

No the ones who go voluntarily. And Obama is an a-hole for sending out troops into that shite. Won't do any good

Are they not Americans deployed to this region? Did they simply do a pilgrimage on their own?

I'm missing the humor.
How exactly did Dr. Kent Brantly contract Ebloa?
How exactly did Dr. Rick Sacra contract Ebloa?

Did they basically allow an infected patient to sneeze into their mouths, as a previous poster more or less implied was the necessary mode of contact.

Given appropriate quarantining, travel to and fro need not actually cease.

Third world people spread third world diseases.

When I think of third-world diseases, I think of diseases that are spread due to lack of clean water, poor hygiene, open sewers, etc., but this disease doesn't need those types of third-world conditions to thrive, it can theoretically thrive in the first world, like smallpox and other diseases that the Europeans brought to the New World, which wreaked havoc on the Real Americans.

It certainly would not 'thrive' in developed countries.

I, too, have noticed how authorities are saying that it's difficult to acquire ebola, and that those in medicine working around it "know exactly what they are doing"...

yet, they are still catching it. That doesn't add up.

That's exactly what I was thinking two months ago when those two American doctors were transported back to the U.S.

I don't think all flights should be stopped, they should just be quarantined for three weeks, and people who go there should understand that they'll be quarantined when they return.

Based on my understanding of how it's spread, I respectfully disagree. What do you think would happen if a person with Ebola got on a crowded plane? We all know how the airlines pack people in like sardines nowadays.
