That movie scared the crap out of 10 year old me. Still scary.

People now know that an all out nuclear war will end it all for us.
Which is why it won't happen.
A country with limited nuclear capabilities would get wiped out instantly, with few of their warheads hitting anything.
Really no reason for anybody to try it.
But yes, that movie was frightening.

It was an anti-Reagan nuclear fear mongering.
Then I think the same network in 1987 followed up with a series called Amerika in which the US was taken over by the Soviet Union 10 years into the future.
Here is a trailer for it:
You can probably find the entire 13 episode miniseries on YouTube too.

NBC had a similar movie that was supposed to be a real time newscast of terrorists setting off a nuke in Charleston harbor. Special Bulletin I think was the name?
Correct.

That was the ONLY reason that movie was made. And the reason it got so much coverage. It was during the era all the Eurofags were protesting US missiles in Europe (you know, the missiles the American taxpayers paid for to defend and protect Europe).
Unilateral disarmament was a popular thing in the early-80s (and by “unilateral” they meant the United States should take the lead while the Soviets were “trusted” to do the same)..

Another is a 1990 HBO movie By Dawn's Early Light. Stars Powers Booth, Rebecca DeMorney, James Earl Jones
I remember watching that one for the first time, and when I saw Baton Rouge in flames I was like “WTF?”

I vividly remember the big to do over this movie from 1983. They had a panel of journalists afterward reacting to the movie, discussing the ramifications of a global nuclear war and mutually assured destruction. As a high school kid I remember it really affecting all of us being at the tail end of the Cold War.
My question is, where did these people go, and is the Cold War so far removed from our memories that we think we are safe from such a thing happening IRL?
This is typical fear mongering, and it brings out the cowardice in everybody. Even if a nuke were to hit, you would never know it. As this video says, I hope the Russians love their children too, because they are about to experience the same.

That & Winds of War. ‘83 was a banner year for TV events.
