Do you think the look of "assault rifles" has a psychological effect towards aggression ?

I put assault rifles in quotes, y’all know what I mean and we’ve all seen the memes about em etc. What I’m referring to is any that look like they come out of Call of Duty or something and have the aggressive look to them.

Does that aggressive look trigger something inside of mentally unstable people to make them want to go shoot up a school? Maybe some sort of fantasy/role playing thing happening in their head. A plain hunting rifle might not have the same effect as an AR15 that looks like it’s ready for combat.

I can see some kids that have screws loose and play shooter video games all day being influenced by the aggressive look of these guns and want to go play combat. So they do.

What do you think? Like I said we know people kill people, not guns. Seen the memes. Have heard "what’s an assault rifle?" a million times. Not the point of the thread. I’m just curious if you think the physical look of a gun can have any psychological effects to these shooters and possibly contribute in some way to their decision to go shoot someplace up.

no, but it does not surprise me that a candy assed, whining prog would think that...

No?

First of all don’t use the word assault rifles in quotes. That is a very specifically defined term.

Second, the guns my family has the liberals would refer to as “assault rifles” have done nothing but sit in a safe and come out a few times a year to go the range.

Never once have I held the gun and been thinking - “WOW I CAN FEEL THE AGGRESSION FLOW THROUGH ME”

No.

If that were the case, there would be more murders every year by "AR" style rifles than other small arms.

The honest truth of the matter is that they are just publicized and obsessed over right now because the country has become so "my team" vs "your team" and that's one of the useless issues that is fought over.

In fact, i'd be willing to bet that, per capita, swords, shields, bows and poison still win in overall murdering folks numbers.

We suffer from peace. As bad as that sounds, our country is so isolated from the harsh realities that the rest of the world lives in that it has grown soft and started to destroy itself from within.

Lots of things can trigger unstable people.

To your thread title:

I think that the sight of an "assault rifle" can have a psychological effect in that an aggressor can see you holding and have second thoughts about doing what they're doing so you don't have to shoot them. So, AR's save lives.

Holding a gun doesn’t invoke some sort of emotional response.

It’s not like watching a movie.

No. A few notable mass shootings have been done with pistols as well.

I think using the monicker "assault rifle" instead of calling it a rifle is what has a psychological effect on human emotion.

Would any of you say an aggressive styling of a sports car has an effect of making some people want to drive fast?

Long arms responsible for 3% of murders, if remember correctly.

Perhaps. Kinda hard to compare that with murder, though

If looks are important, that fricking Lone Ranger is responsible for millions of revolver deaths! I mean, did any cis-gendered male here NOT have a .45 long Colt cap gun?

Yes. If they could just make these rifles look like a Pastrami on Rye sandwich, I honestly believe the murder rate would fall by at least 65-70%.

When I was 8 or 9, I would pull the lever on my Red Rider all the way down and pretend it was a magazine.

If my 9 year old version could see my AR today he would poop his Sears jeans.

I’m not saying it drives everyone to go shoot up places, but it just seems plausible that an aggressive styling could drive fantasies in kids with screws loose.

Or hell it might drive fantasies in all the people who own them, it’s just most of us can keep those fantasies in check. Ask yourself why someone buys the more aggressive looking guns over something more mundane. Or why someone buys aggressively styled cars. There’s some kind of psychological pleasure it brings, maybe a little boost of adrenaline. Perhaps a tiny few amount of people can’t keep that in check?
