The Snoop/Dr Dre was alright, I guess.

Prince was really good but that was several years ago.

Those were utter disasters and did nothing to hurt the NFL

If the show follows suit it will have the same result of no long-term impact

The same people who want an alternative Superbowl halftime show also wanted segregated water fountains back in the day.

America has regressed.

I think that was about 18 years ago

There are 2 main issues other than the standard "ignorant old man yells at clouds" stuff going on

1. The nostalgic Millennial pop acts are basically run through. Usher was one of the few left. JT has already headlined two of them, for example. I think Christina Aguillera has been in 2 also. N Sync hosted a long time ago and has no modern panache. All that's left is Taylor Swift and she's too big for the Super Bowl. maybe in 15 years if her star has faded a bit by then.

2. Gen Z and Gen Alpha pop came after the internet killed the national Zeitgeist, which makes the popular acts of the yutes even more foreign to old people like us on this board. Back in the day, old people still had somewhat of an idea of who the kids were listening to (via things like radio, MTV, etc.). That just doesn't seem to be a thing anymore

Just for shits and giggles, what are your go to bands to listen to. I am trying to humanize you in my mind as you can come off a touch... Like Bill Belichick ironically.

Pretty good? Dude, Prince is arguably the greatest halftime show ever.

They were really bad

The Who basically killed the post-Nipplegate old man halftime show.

The next year you had Blackeyed Peas (who put on a show) and it was back to modern-pop acts. The NFL couldn't afford to be bland and boring anymore.

It just depends. My musical tastes are very wide.

My Youtube Music "My Supermix" that I just pulled up goes

Sublime
Neutral Milk Hotel
Veorra
Bassenector (sick remix of the Pixies Where is My Mind)
Metallica
Descendants
Offrspring
Aaron Hibell (new guy I just found)
The Beta Band
Grateful Dead
Above & Beyond
Misfits
Rancid (gross)
Weezer
Blink 182
Reel Big Fish
Eminem
Dash Berlin
Blur
The Smashing Pumpkins

Literally that is what the order would have been had I started listening.

I've been on more of a 00s pop punk/skater punk revival kick lately and Americana/Bluegrass/Outlaw Country has fallen down. I'm shocked there wasn't more Swisha House on there, to be honest, b/c I've listened to a lot of the classics after Michael 5000 Watts died this week.

They played "Baba O'Riley" which is neither. Won't get fooled again was so popular and catchy it was used as the intro to CSI: Miami.

I'd rather watch Kid Rock's little guy who had Celiac. RIP Joe C.

Appreciate you sharing it. That is a pretty diverse list with some names I did not expect and because I am an old fart, a few I have never heard of.

Will check them out.

That explains your posts.

We'll see re: Ocasio.
Tom Petty, the Who, etc., were NEVER going to screw the NFL during their performance.

When you don’t have a real job or if your job doesn’t require your attention you have all the time in the world to live on social media. Seems like a sad wasted life.

I don't have anything against The Who

They are a terrible choice for the NFL halftime show, and that was amplified with the geriatric version of the Who.

I think y'all are confusing bad for a performance setting like the Super Bowl halftime show" with "the group makes bad music". These are 2 distinct concepts

For example, the best live show I've ever seen was Tool at Voodoofest 3. Tool would be a terrible NFL halftime show choice.
