We're free enough that idiots can go long TVIX and gold, get their asses handed to them, do it over and over again, then come on here and bitch about how unfair our financial system is.

not true

Beasality was made illegal in NED in the 2010s

and drug/prostitution is typically limited to specific areas. hell Amsterdam has cracked down on both lately

Holland cracking down on coffee shops

Amsterdam cracks down on prostitutes

Yes this. Why I asked him to go into full detail of what his definition of independence is. He cannot answer it.

Name the country where you can do all of that without some government involvement.

Consume, sleep, consume, sleep

The very constructs of what we consider free, independent behavior are the result of decades/centuries of conditioning...

you may be able to do one or two things more freely on this list than the US, but your argument is seriously weak if you think this list is illustrative of anything. you're almagomating a bunch of single regulations from specific countries into a mythical state where it's all better.

Absolutely. I have at least six friends who are doing it right now. I'm doing it in fact. I work, wife stays home and we have three kids in Catholic school.

what?

you can't just go around doing drugs in NED, bro

they tolerate it in specific areas (which are becoming smaller and smaller), out of public

Then listen to those of us who've lived in other countries when we tell you the US, while not perfect by any stretch, is by far the most free.
Show me where I said different? I asked a simple question: are we independent? And if so, what are we independent of.

There are specific areas in America you can do both as well.

i'm only talking about freedoms

you're creating a very unrealistic and mythical comparison for the US

take guns. what developed, stable countries has fewer regulations on guns than the US? you listed that as a negative for the US when i can't imagine another developed state with as few regulations on purchasing arms

you listed starting a business. there are a few Scandinavian countries with easier routes (compared to SOME, but not all states, within the US). however, that's one example and it's infinitely harder to manage the regulatory behemoths in countries like the UK or France

repeat after me slaves

fish: done it anyway
drink: under 21 done it anyway
build a house: built a tree fort with crap we stole/repurposed from construction sites
drive a car: often and early no permission or doc
collect rainwater: do it today
leave the country: not yet but I can buy a boat and leave not hard
start a business: have sold a few things off the grid and without permission. Go to a flea market or garage sale sometimes
smoke weed: see above
get married: I didn't ask permission from anyone but my wife. Signed a legal doc in county court house. Would be with her today doc or not.
