Unfortunately in the defense of our country and right to pursuit of life and liberty and the safety of our families, your mom needs to be downvoted.

There are 7 of us. The two oldest are lost. The rest of us are 100% MAGA. Sister believes in all the immortality the DNC peaches, yet considers herself a strong Catholic. None of us have a clue how she can reconcile the two.

really a centrist, gun owning, patriotic, anti-communist, free market independent, who votes democrat because his daddy did. It’s baffling.

You are correct, as many social ills were once addressed by private charity, churches, etc. Donations to these causes were of course voluntary to a large degree.
In today's world the role of private charity has been largely supplanted by government, and that's where her model falls apart, i.e., "the government can provide food and shelter and health care and you name it" for the poor. When I point out that government can only redistribute the money it collects in taxes, and that tax money comes from people like us, her argument falls apart and she clams up.
I realize it's more complex than that, but math and economics aren't her strong suits.

My sister hates Trump and is full blown BLM.
I have to check her FB about once a week to see what she is railing about.

Yes... I have two younger cousins who are still in college. They are both concerned with social justice and women’s rights. (Can someone remind me again what rights that women don’t have?)
Neither have ever worked a day in their lives or paid anything other than sales taxes. They see the world from an upper middle class suburb point of view and not from reality. The family is disgusted with them because they were taught better but are confident that they’ll see the light once they enter the real world.

Hopefully she’s under 30 at least?
She only has 2 likes. Not much of a popular presence.

YES
And I refuse to talk about politics with them. If they bring it up I POUND them with no mercy. It usually stops after that...

I have an older sister who can't stand Trump. But she was kind of what passed for a hippie in Kansas in the late 60s when she was growing up. She absolutely hated Nixon but hated LBJ just as much if not more. She doesn't really like Biden but she will vote for him since he isn't Trump. Politics really haven't broken us up though because we both share snarkiness and sarcasm genes and the thick skin that being exposed to those genes creates.

My mom and sister are very liberal. My mom has basically disowned me for voting for Trump. Very sad situation, but I refuse to change my political beliefs to make them happy. When I point out that them writing me off for who I am is a hateful, judgmental thing to do that is very Trumpian in nature (at least following the left’s narrative that Trump disparages entire groups of people), they get furious. I generally now just try to shut down any political discussion they attempt on me. Unfortunate situation all around as my mom is getting up in age so you never know how many years you have left.
is disheartening and I feel for you bro. Is your old man still in the picture?

My MIL. Diehard Dem that lives to watch MSNBC every morning and CNN at night. She's one of those "TRUMP'S GONNA CUT MY SOCIAL SECURITY" types.
Ask her what the Dems plans are with her 401K?

In-Laws have always leaned left but have suffered from TDS greatly. MIL watches CNN daily. Lost cause.

Yeah, most of my family are democrats. A couple of far lefties, but mostly are center-left that think the modern dems are going too far. They still hate trump with a dying passion.
Then again, they’re in NJ and NY. The only other member of my family besides my parents who are no longer here that is conservative is my sister, lives in Montreal and votes abroad. Voted for trump and is one of the only ones that voted for the PPC in Canada, which is a populist party much like trumps ideology.

No one in my family (immediate and extended) is a Democrat. No one in my wife's family (extended and immediate) is a Democrat. I'm very blessed. But, I never would have even dated a woman that had left-leaning views.

My best friend of 15 years said he was done with me after finding out I support Trump. It all started with Covid and the discussions we would have over text about how things were being handled. He's a somewhat progressive liberal. So I guess he wasn't a friend to begin with.

My mom is a registered Democrat but has voted Republican since W Bush although she does vote in the Democratic primaries. My dad is an independent and he and I generally share the same political views.
