Do you all think term limits would combat some of the corruption that is well known with swampy politicians? Just think, if there were no *insert politician name* then foreign countries wouldn't be seeking out these politicians if they were out of office in a few years.

We as voters can decide term limits.

Yes, voters can but they get lulled into an easy vote to re-elect. That’s why we have congressmen that have been there for 30-40-50 years.

So can we get rid of term limit for President?

You may have some politicians more apt to take money if they know they only have a set amount of years in Congress.
I absolutely think Congressmen and women start to become out of touch with the states they represent when they stay in DC for many years.

I think tern limits and extremely scrutinized audits for the remainder of their lives.
Let’s find the patriots.
Too many of these people go into office with nothing and come out multimillionaires.
Book deals and speeches my arse
Edit: or maybe the fricking intelligence community could do their gd jobs instead of using it as leverage to control elected officials.

Its not just elected officials. Need to get rid of career bureaucrats. If we learned nothing else from the impeachment its that they have an agenda and a distorted view of their role in the function of government.

I think maybe the opposite. If a person is termed there may be more of a need to cozy up to lobbyist. Setting themselves up for future gigs as they will still be young leaving office.
Also think of all that extra retirement....

Herein lies the problem:
Congress almost always has a low approval rate, i.e., “those bastards in DC suck”
Congressional incumbents typically win, i.e, “my guy/girl is pretty good, I am voting for him/her again”
Without a 3/4 state convention I don’t foresee Congressional term limits.

No. Term limits are useless unless you limit the tenure of non elected government officials.

No, no we can’t.
The average incumbent has 5X the war chest of a challenger. That’s a lot. And if the challenger makes ground the party dumps 10x the amount to ensure dumb Americans see enough commercials to sway a vote.

12 year term limits.
No lobbying for 8 years after “service”
A very healthy paycheck to ensure that average Americans can get elected and ensure that their businesses can survive without them while they are off serving their constituents in DC.
it would get rid of 95% of our problems immediately.

Or at least increase a President's term to 10 years rather than 4....starting immediately.

The legislature gonna vote against their gravy chain?
The only way possible is at the State level through State Constitution Amendment which will be legally challenged and fail. Fail because while LA gets it on a ballot TX, AR, MS all remain as is and gain Seniority over any remaining LA Congress Persons.
As long as Committee positions and such remain Seniority based, any state that starts the process of term limits falls to the wayside in DC Power.
That's another reason you end up with Pelosi, Schumer, et al. Seniority. Biden after 30 years was the Senior of the Seniors for the Dems. Picked his own committee positions for the next 9 years then 8 as VP.

Cruz and Rubio have a Bill for term limits.

-Term Limits
-Balanced Budget
-Apply the 10th amendment with zealotry.
I would think that these three things would go a long way to fixing things, if they are fixable. Shouldn't have to do these, but Washington has proven they cannot control themselves with power or money.

I grew up in DC. My folks had friends at the Pentagon and NSA among other agencies. Many of career folks used the term "Summer Help" for elected politicians or their top staff. The bureaucrats are entrenched and have just as much of an agenda as the political class.

It still amazes me that some folks think the country is being run by people in an elected office.

Yes
1). Why would lobbyist and foreign countries invest a ton of cash on such a limited term investment? There will still be some, but this could remove a lot. If there is no "campaign" to contribute to, that makes that routine harder.
2). Politician can focus on the work of the people instead of immediately starting on next campaign. While not corruption, it is a problem that would be solved by term limits.
