And we had no say in it. No vote. Nothing. We were simply told to shut everything down and don’t question it, the biggest decision this country has made since entering WW2 and there wasn’t a single vote cast.

I think its a gross overreaction to this bat flu thing. That said, I also think you're overreacting.

Just my opinion.

The problem though is those elected officials have never been given the power they are trying to exercise to start with. No vote is really required for much of this, as The People never gave the authority to anyone (as a generalization) for what is trying to be implemented.

I agree.

Thing is there is that old saying power corrupts.

If one would have asked any of the governors pre election if they would be shutting down their state for a pandemic they would have laughed and said "No."

Excellent take on the situation. The reason this happens is because we are being governed by a bunch of numbskulls. If they follow someone’s lead, they can march together and support one another. If you are an independent thinker you are vilified if you make a miscalculation. Flying solo is not the smart play to a politician.

You just now figured this out?

There was absolutely no real decision making being made. It was just blind reaction without thought of the consequences.

It was like a domino effect. One company does it, then another follows for fear of being criticized or setting themselves up for liability if an outbreak occurred there.

Man trump is the swamp and people are blindly adherent to ever tweet he sends which makes a massive government overreach that much easier. The left is clamoring for it like they always do and the right is blinded by partisan loyalty. No one is left to fight this shite

This^^

You say anything critical of Trump on the board and the Trumpzombies will call you a "cuck", "beta", say you are an enemy of the state and they come to eat your brain.

I criticize Trump, not because he is a Republican (he really isn't, he a populist) but because i believe he is trampling all over the constitution and he is consolidating power into his own autocracy. I would criticize a Democrat for the same reasons if the shoe were on the other foot.

Look at the checklist for dictators seizing power from a republic:

>Attack the media
>Nepotism
>Shrink inner circle of grifters
>Demonize "others"
>Destroy institutions

Then this
quote:

After the Senate trial ended, Mr. Trump began removing officials seen as enemies. The target list was long and varied, including Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, a national security aide who testified before the House under subpoena, and his twin brother, Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman, who had nothing to do with impeachment other than being family. Ambassador Gordon D. Sondland, another witness, was removed.

Ambassador William B. Taylor Jr., the acting chief diplomat in Ukraine who also testified, was brought home early. John C. Rood, the under secretary of defense, was ousted. Joseph Maguire, the acting director of national intelligence, was pushed out early. Elaine McCusker, a Defense Department official who questioned the aid freeze had her nomination to be Pentagon comptroller withdrawn. Jessie K. Liu, who prosecuted Mr. Trump’s friend, Roger J. Stone Jr., had her nomination to be under secretary of the Treasury withdrawn.

It's right there in plain site and this board refuses to see it.

I support the president of my country. Others should do the same or go find somewhere else to live.

We will come out of it much better off, with a real idea of where our pinch points are, with a better reserves of equipment and a better manufacturing base, and a more unified scientific outlook, and most importantly, a better idea of the economic tools to use.

The response to this has been slovenly on the one hand and overreach on the other. Yet the approach to getting it resolved is remarkably unified, even with the expected political smack.

That line of thinking is as anti-American as you can get (and I highly doubt you would have said the same thing during the prior administration).

Our politicians need to be scrutinized and we shouldn’t support them when they do something wrong. Hold their feet to the fire, they have control over us and that power shouldn’t go unchecked. The greatest power they have is the way partisanship causes people to blindly support their decisions and it’s a much larger threat to our nation that Russia or China or Iran. We are our own worst enemy,
