Trump says we’re leaving Syria and then a pointless chemical attack.
Either...
1. Putin/Assad wanted to draw the US into broader conflict.
2. Putin/Assad wanted to make the US back down, thus giving up some perceived power status on world stage.
Or
3. Some third party commited / staged the attack in order to draw in the US.

Putin doesn’t give a shite about the US or Syria... he’s hoping for instability (I know right) in the Middle East to regain territory that ruthlessly embarrassed the Soviet Union.
