Trump Says He Doesn’t Expect to Extend July 9 Tariff Deadline

Trump team moves goalposts on tariffs again

quote:

Tariffs will revert back to their April 2 rates on Aug. 1 for countries that fail to nail down new trade deals with the United States, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday, just three days before the Trump administration’s initial July 9 deadline for tariffs to return.

Bessent told CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Trump administration would be sending out letters to 100 smaller countries “saying that if you don’t move things along, then on August 1st, you will boomerang back to your April 2nd tariff level.”

The announcement effectively pushes back the tariffs that were originally set in April but had been suspended until July 9, a window the Trump administration used to pursue an ambitious round of dealmaking with other countries aimed at reaching deals to stave off the return of tariffs of between 10 and 50 percent on dozens of countries. It comes as Trump administration officials increasingly hint at difficulties in nailing down deals.

I wonder why they keep kicking the can down the road every time the deadline comes.

And yet, I've still been right 10X more often than you have this year. But hey, don't worry. You'll get Trump "next time."

(Why do I have a mental image of a mule incessantly chasing a carrot?).

Did you predict Trump pussing out on enacting tariffs multiple times?

Have you even took a stance as to what the goal of tariffs actually is?

"taken"

Obviously, President Trump wants a more level playing field regarding trade. Most countries were already placing tariffs on our country's goods.

What you don't seem to understand is that President Trump is an astute businessman. He knew from the beginning that there were going to be back-and-forth negotiations. Didn't we just make a deal with some country (Vietnam?) that removed all tariffs on our goods?

What makes you think you know more about tariffs than a successful businessman? Just your usual unfounded hubris?

That is a generic set of words that is non-answer.

You're saying "we want something better". I'm asking for actual details and an articulated, specific goal.

And this is why y'all won't commit. You use the malleability and vagueness to declare victory no matter what the outcome is, hiding behind "negotiation" (both in terms of the hindsight bias and avoiding declaring a goal from the outset).

Update: this doesn't count as "being right", just so you know.

There is always the possibility that this tariff policy rollout is so bad that it has the power to make Cramer right for once, which is scary

An obvious joke is the best you could find?

And that was commenting about the rollout, anyway, not the tariffs themselves

Try again

Like I said, you're a chameleon. Of course President Trump is seeking a more level playing field regarding trade. Implementing tariffs against other countries THAT WERE ALREADY IMPOSING TARIFFS ON US has been part of his plan to secure that more level playing field.

You can dismiss the obvious by calling it "a generic set of words," but that's simply gibberish on your part. If I'm wrong, then you rell me what Trump's end goal is here.

Two questions:

1) Has America been hurt by Trump's imposition of these tariffs? If so, how?

2) Hasn't Trump's team already made some advantageous deals with some countries? Also, how much money has America been taking in each month on these tariffs? Do you even know?

Congratulations on being in bed with the corrupt Political Establishment (A term that you have foolishly scoffed at, as if it doesn't even exist). Presidentt Trump is actually trying to act in America's best interest, and you either don't get that or else you're too stubborn to admit that you were wrong about Trump. In case you haven't noticed, he's actually doing quite well across the board.

The tariffs are delayed (again) until August. The question can't be answered yet

quote:

2) Hasn't Trump's team already made some advantageous deals with some countries?

I don't think any are finalized. There have been reports and claims, but nothing hard I don't think.

Like Trump claims he has a deal with Vietnam, but has anyone read this deal? Where is the text?

quote:

Presidentt Trump is actually trying to act in America's best interest

Define with specificity and detail how, in this case.

Is it replacing the income tax with tariffs?
Is it re-shoring manufacturing jobs?
Was it (since this failed) to force rates down to refi debt?

These are 3 exclusive options that cannot co-exist. You can sprinkle national security to 1 and 2 if you'd like.

Good thing for your sake that you're just a divorce lawyer, because your debating/arguing skills suck donkey balls.

Dude, even some of the propaganda puppets on CNN are grudgingly acknowledging that President Trump is kicking butt and taking names right now. Try being honest for once, Nostradumbass. It won't kill you.

If Trump keeps winning, the next 3.5 years are going to be very, very hard for you.

....and then we just might get J.D.

PS - I'm out. Need to watch some Seinfeld bloopers or something and relax. For the record, SFP, I don't hate you. At the end of the day, we're both human* beings. May Jesus richly bless you.

* I know you barely qualify, but still.....

No wonder you think that I'm not making sense, as you can't connect simple dots in a rhetorical flow

quote:

It won't. I'm not an emotional person like so many on here.

I will maintain my principles for small government and more freedom, and disagree with Trump when he enacts policies that attack either.

PS - I'm out. Need to watch some Seinfeld bloopers or something and relax.

See my point above about not being emotional like you people. Thank you.

You did leave JUST as I asked you point blank questions, too. Shocker.
