Institutional ownership represents 95% of the shares outstanding. They don't exactly wait around for quarterly earnings and guidance to make decisions. If a sizeable portion of shareholders thought this was a material bad idea, the stock would be down.

It still might be down, I'm just pointing out the current activity. It's not retail investors buying/selling in premarket activity very often.

Read the NYT article linked on Drudge earlier... went to the comments and not a single negative one.

NYT has to be censoring the responses. There’s no way I can read through 40+ comments and not a single one be negative.

Guns kill people.
Along those lines, my car won't drive to Dick's anymore.

Why didn't you comment?

The place sucks as a sporting goods store anyway, especially in their firearms and hunting department...

Could be, we'll see. I do believe this appeals to soccer mom types, but I don't think it will have any significant impact when the dust settles.

I didn't know Dicks sporting goods sold guns. I've only been to one; the one by Lakeside in Metairie. I needed some .303 ammo and asked the greeter where ammunition was. He looked at me like I had the plague and said they didn't sell ammunition, so I walked back out. This was about five years ago. I dunno; maybe he was just an arse.

I read a pretty good article about ways to enforce gun control via private companies if the government doesn't take action. I disagree with the actions, but it was interesting nonetheless.

It mentioned pressuring Visa and Mastercard to ban the use of their cards and/or payment processing hardware with firearms retailers. I thought that was a clever strategy, even though I disagree with the cause.

This is a purely political move and not in the normal sense. The founder of Dicks daughter ran for Congress as a D in what I think was NY22nd and was pretty much embarrassed along the way. A liberal D who had some experience in the county legislature but more so in their school district. Most of her commercials while running were Dicks Sporting goods based and how she “helped” build it no one even in the slightly D based area bought it this move by Dicks and the statements released have new campaign written all over it.

If they were serious, why not just quit selling guns all together?

Which would surely draw the ire of Congress and more oversight legislation prohibiting it and possibly even a federal court injunction.

I don't know anyone who has ever purchased a weapon from richards anyone else?

For me that would be like going to McDonald's for pizza...

I believe post sandy hook they pulled them from Dicks specifically and then only sold them at Field & Stream (?) stores. It is my understanding they will cease selling them there as well.

Correct. This is what I read earlier in a news article.

Ever since Gander Mountain went out of business. Dick's is by far the worst national chain sporting goods place. Couldn't tell you the last time I bought something from them.
