U.S. consumers’ confidence hit a fresh 14-year high this month, as lower-income households reported feeling more optimistic about the economy.

The University of Michigan on Friday said the preliminary result of its consumer-sentiment index was 102.0 in March, up from 99.7 in February. That was the highest level since January 2004, and well above the 99.0 economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected.

Why did bush only win by 2 points when patriotism was high and the economy was doing great?

People need something to vote for. Anger is a great motivator.

The act of voting is forward looking. It's not what you've done for me in the past that motivates people to get off the couch and go to the polls. It what will you do for me that gets them off the couch.

Voter enthusiasm is either driven by fear or greed and those emotions need to be high on your side in order to win. Being fat and happy as a result from good policy can lead to complacency. That is the danger.

That is very good news.

Politically for Trump, sure. But more so for the country in general. Confidence is as good a leading indicator as there is (which isn't saying a ton, I grant you).
