Marc Lampkin, a leading fundraiser for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, has benefited from millions of dollars flowing from the Chinese Communist Party’s tech giant Tencent Holdings since 2020.

Between 2020 and 2023, Brownstein Hyatt – where Lampkin is a government relations managing partner and shareholder – received a total of $2,130,000 million from the Chinese firm despite then-President Donald Trump’s 2020 executive order which attempted to ban U.S. transactions with Tencent.

In 2020, Brownstein accepted $330,000 to lobby for Tencent’s American subsidiary, which grew to £800,000 in both 2021 and 2022. This year, the total amount so far has been $200,000.

Tencent is the tech company responsible for WeChat, a messaging and social media app, which has been utilized by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress dissenting views and closely monitor the private conversations of Chinese citizens. Trump’s attempts to ban WeChat were dropped by President Biden.

Lampkin – who is also a lobbyist on behalf of Moderna, manufacturer of one of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines – is part of the host committee for the “Ron DeSantis For President” fundraiser in Washington D.C. this month, for which tickets cost upwards of $1,000.

He has previously served as strategic advisor to former House Speaker John A. Boehner, as well as having been the deputy campaign manager for the Bush for President campaign.

While Governor DeSantis has been keen to stop Chinese land purchases in Florida, he has never broached the issue of Tencent and its like, though he has not been shy to fight major American corporations. LINK

*see my responses below to the false claims that he donated to Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Edit: double debunked

The Trump campaign is fascinating

"DeSantis once went to a dinner with John Bolton!" as though Trump didn't hire John Bolton himself

"A DeSantis donor made money in China" as though Trump himself didn't make money in China

just bizarre

The attacks on Ron just show you who they are really afraid of. And floating the trial balloon of no or few debates is sad and puts them in the same leaky boat as ol joe. I don't get it but I'm not paying them.

The guy DeSantis held a fundraiser with, literally represents a Chinese company *and* a company that sells puberty blockers, not just Moderna.

Are you claiming he donated to Trump’s 24’ campaign or his previous campaign inaugural committee (or past irrelevant donations, prior to the Chinese alliances Marc formed)? They donate to all president-elects, no matter if republican or democrat.

They never donated to his 24’ campaign.

Why do they keep bringing this one up? He’s a lobbyist for dozens of other companies several of whom pay a LOT more than Moderna did, which has been $175k so far in 2023 (according to OpenSecrets any way) Hell, FedEx, one of his listed clients, paid Brownstein over $2.7 million so far in 2023- why not refer to him as “a lobbyist on behalf of FedEx”?

Hell Raytheon is up there with over $3 million. That’s a way better swamp example if that’s the moniker they want to stick him with. For that matter, if they absolutely wanted to connect him to a pharmaceutical company why not use Johnson and Johnson coming in at just under $2.5 million. Also Wynn Resorts is one of his clients too, chiming with $80k so far in 2023. So one of Trump’s largest donors is tied in with this guy. If the information is true that is.

It should noted that it looks like a lot of these clients are shared between several employees of this firm.

He was one of about 20 people on a "host committee" and Desantis was not there.

Lobbyists represent dozens, sometimes hundreds of companies. Getting money from one lobbyist does not mean they have lobbied you on their behalf, or anything of the sort.

a company that sells puberty blockers, not just Moderna.

If anything, you are proving Desantis can't be bought, so thanks. He is still suing, currently, big pharma and banning puberty blockers in florida.

Meanwhile Trump took money from this guy AND made Big Pharma richer than humanly possible.

They never donated to his campaign, and in 2019, Trump said: “I don’t want their money”.

He literally gave to his re-election campaign in 2019

Among those who gave: Marc Lampkin of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, Dan Murphy of BGR Group, Christine Pellerin of the Normandy Group and Mark Smith of the Da Vinci Group. All of them gave the maximum contribution of $5,600 except for Smith, who came close. And Jeff Miller of Miller Strategies reported bundling more than $111,000 on behalf of Trump Victory, the campaign’s joint fundraising committee with the Republican National Committee.
