Return education to the states.

Is Congress going to repeal the statute creating the DOE?
What is going to happen to the programs that DOE administers via Congressional statute (like PSLF)?
For example, this EO direct the Secretary of the DOE to craft new policy/regulations.

quote:
Sec. 2. Restoring Public Service Loan Forgiveness. The Secretary of Education shall propose revisions to 34 C.F.R. 685.219, Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, in coordination with the Secretary of the Treasury as appropriate, that ensure the definition of “public service” excludes organizations that engage in activities that have a substantial illegal purpose, including:
(a) aiding or abetting violations of 8 U.S.C. 1325 or other Federal immigration laws;
(b) supporting terrorism, including by facilitating funding to, or the operations of, cartels designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations consistent with 8 U.S.C. 1189, or by engaging in violence for the purpose of obstructing or influencing Federal Government policy;
(c) child abuse, including the chemical and surgical castration or mutilation of children or the trafficking of children to so-called transgender sanctuary States for purposes of emancipation from their lawful parents, in violation of applicable law;
(d) engaging in a pattern of aiding and abetting illegal discrimination; or
(e) engaging in a pattern of violating State tort laws, including laws against trespassing, disorderly conduct, public nuisance, vandalism, and obstruction of highways.

President is not obligated to spend that money.

What does any of that have to do with making our children smarter?

Can’t happen soon enough. It’s unbelievable how much damage the so called Department of Education has done.

Fox reporting massive job cuts at DoE right now.

That's not really directly relevant to my questions.
I wasn't discussing the propriety of, or my opinions over, the Congressional acts. Until Congress repeals them, they exist, regardless of how good/bad they are.

Dude is single handedly raising the unemployment rate.

So, under your theory, what's the point of specific statutes of Congress?
What role does Congress have under our Constitution?

Trump can reduce the size of the department without completely shutting it down.
I have seen nothing saying it is being eliminated today or next week.

Well… one of them is passing a budget. When is the last time that happened?
The lines apparently are a little blurred.

Not a freaking thing. There’s nothing the federal government does efficiently.

Baier just said that they are hearing 1300 being terminated.

IMHO Congress has completely abrogated its powers to the Executive Branch via Executive Agencies passing law via Federal Regulations.
Congress exists to showboat and to get re-elected. They like it when much of their law-making responsibility is done by Exec Agencies promulgating Federal Regulations.
If the Dept of Ed was doing a good job, they wouldn't be in this mess.

I was under the impression that the Carter admin created the DOE by EO? If so then trump can cancel that EO correct? The funding for it was approved by congress but the agency does not exist then there is nothing to fund. On my phone and to lazy to look it up.

Wake me up when we cut the federal funds being sent to public schools.

The DOE was an act passed by congress and Carter signed it.
