I was thinking about this the other day.

We're always hearing how we need to fund our already bloated education system. We spend more than any other country on education per student. Apparently they need laptops, tablets, and other shite.

I don't send my son to school to learn to use a laptop or tablet. He already knows how to use them. I send him there to learn MATH, SCIENCE, and HISTORY. I try to supplement his education at home. His school doesn't have textbooks. They use pp.

But here's where I had an epiphany.

I graduated high school in 1990. I went to a small private school that used to be a motel. We didn't have laptops or tablets. I took all AP classes and all my teachers had was an overhead projector and we managed to learn. How did that happen? Yep, all we had was an overhead projector and a book. I turned out pretty smart. In fact, my school won the Governor's Award for Education 3 out of the 4 years I was there.

What good is it to be able to use a laptop when you can't add 43+29 like these kids today?

Get rid of standardized testing, and we wouldn't need half of that shite.

Our students dont need technology etc, they need discipline.

Kids today cant sit in a desk long enough to learn anything from a projector or book etc because the are used to having everything entertain them rather than teach them.

Once they removed paddling from schools kids are not afraid of breaking the rules or getting in trouble. The only way to get them to sit still is to put them on a tablet because they are not worried about getting in trouble at school or at home.

I teach at a rural school and we dont have much for laptops or tablets as a class set so we dont have the luxury of all of the new technology, but we also still have parent who give a shite.

And Abraham Lincoln wrote on the back of shovel! Your overhead projector education should be ashamed!
Why can’t we just go back to cutting each other open and spraying blood on the cave wall???? It’s not like technology would ever improve on education!

Making kids sit in rows in a desk for six hours a day is a horrible way to teach anything.

Our current model for education is already dead and just doesn't know it yet.

Decentralized education is going to be the future.

Raising children 50 years from now will look nothing like it does today.

Get rid of standardized testing and these crap schools cheat like no one is watching.

The only reason we have these gate keeper tests is because of the educational fraud.

Yea, teacher unions would love nothing more than to not have ineffective teachers held accountable for student learning.

Parents of reasonable means are going to solve this and there's nothing the public schools can do about it.

Decentralized schooling is the wave of the future. And, by "means", I don't even mean rich. It will become ever more affordable to educate your children with superior teachers in the comfort of your own home.

The entire baby sitter aspect of school is going to die a heinous death and we will effectively have a super tiered system where only the chaff are left behind in public schools.

All these crap schools do now is teach to the test. Kids don't actually learn anything of substance.

You think the test results hold anyone accountable?

We spend far too much money supporting a system that is dedicated to political indoctrination and the memorization of facts instead of teaching people to think using reason, logic, and the Socratic method.

I never had to sit for six hours straight in a college classroom. And the attention span of a 20 year old is much different than that of a 10 year old.

The Prussian Model is going the way of the dinosaur. Good riddance.

Has it really? You can take this out of context if you want.
I'm talking about middle and high school. Can you make kids who don't care get As with a tablet?

Doesn't seem to be working.

And almost every expert on microeducational systems holds the belief that the Prussian model is an ineffective means of education.

Just because we use it doesn't mean its effective.
