It is my understanding that it is 2018 AGI.
I’d imagine it has to be based on 2018, bc a lot haven’t submitted 2019.
Just didn’t know if it was AGI or not.
So what about those that don’t submit taxes

That’s a stupid reason... so they get a bonus
Why is it a "bonus"? Depending on where you live, they ain't making a whole lot of money in some areas of the country... and are making alot in others. Some of them, if they lose their jobs, are probably wondering where their grocery money is coming from just as much s someone making 1/2 what they make.

If you want to help the ones truly impacted, then you put all that money into unemployment benefits.
I’m kinda tired of helping, now I want to be treated fairly, therefore, I want my damn check like everyone else will be getting.

Why don’t you read my comments.... Im all for unemployment assistance, but why should someone making 65K a year and still currently working get free money?

Part of my point too... why should someone who’s making 60k get a check and someone who makes 99k get nothing? If the point is to stimulate the economy that is.

The greatest irony is that these people paid taxes and deserve compensation and will get none, while many paying no taxes, get more free stuff.

frick him if he does. However, I think they need 60 votes to pass this and they have 94 senators voting. So, it will take more than just him.

Exactly... the reason this should have been unemployment, corporate bailout, and payroll tax focused. Not checks

The goal was to keep people employed and not force them on unemployment. That way when things open back up you don't have to go through the hiring process again.

And a 1k check accomplishes that how?

$600/week unemployment kicker?
IG and oversight Board on the $500 Billion corporate loans/grants?
Payroll tax relief?

Payroll tax relief?

That part is just to help out. Hell, I will go as far as far as saying to get votes. They are making funds available to the businesses to support payroll so they don't lay off workers.

Help out what? If you are employed there is no reason you need a check.
If the purpose is to stimulate the economy then give EVERYONE the check.
If the purpose is to help less fortunate then put the money into unemployment insurance or give it directly to the corporations employing people in order to stem the number of layoffs.

That depends. Just because you are employed doesn't mean you make a lot of money. Now you have kids home that you have to feed. Normally they eat 1 or maybe 2 meals at school. Over a couple of months that could be an extra $1k.

The individual payment feels like it’s to pacify the general public so they don’t scream big business gets all of the breaks
I would have preferred a payroll tax cut and an increased check to those laid off or on furlough

Nice. I have no doubt that trump will find a way to get his cut though

Yea I’d rather a payroll holiday for the rest of the year than a one time check.
I haven’t read to see what this is going to be calculated off of but it really should be taxable income instead of AGI if I’m going to be selfish.
It should also exclude one time sources of income that jack up 2018 income.
