This is correct. Under Bretton Woods/globalization, we had hundreds of destroyers patrolling the world's oceans to keep maritime commerce safe. Now that we've backed away from that, we have a carrier-heavy fleet. These are country killers and everyone knows it. Between the carriers and our strategic bomber fleet, there isn't a square inch of this planet that we can't reach out and touch within 72 hours. Nobody wants that smoke.

The real ace in the hole is our fleet of Trident subs.

Nukes won't be on the table unless there's an existential threat to the CONUS. We're not throwing nukes over anything in the South China Sea and China lacks the maritime force projection to even entertain the idea of threatening our mainland.
