You see that is why they have a hearing, to see if there is merit for the restraining order.
Like I said, if someone was going to actually use guns to kill someone, getting a notice to appear before a judge in a few days to defend their rights to keep their guns may push them to go ahead and shoot people. Do you think this Cruz fellow would have waited and let his gun get taken away if he received a notice?

I will not support any changes to gun laws until current laws and procedures are followed by the FBI and local law enforcement

Idiots on the internet make threats all the time that they have no intention on keeping. And what constitutes a "threat", anyway? If someone said "If Hillary wins I'm going out and buying an AR-15 and as much ammo as I can find", is that a threat?

You've never seen language in some restraining orders? They often issue them with known threats,"I'm gonna fricking kill that bitch and her kids", but they can't do anything.

It's an interesting idea and certainly more thoughtful than most I've seen. But it would also be subject to abuse - say, a vengeful spouse who seeks to ruin hunting season? Or may someone who has it in for a security guard and who knows it would cost his enemy a good 21 days of missed work time? Even with these concerns, I think this approach bears more consideration.

Do what we should do with fake rape reporters. Give em 30 days in jail.

I know what a "real" threat looks/sounds like. I'm talking about how this can be abused.

I think this is one of the better suggestions that I've heard. There is no perfect solution.

I don't understand how those on the far left can say that complete gun control is the answer. I am of the mind set that this is a mental health issue. What person of the right mind wakes up one morning and says what should I do today: a) go to a movie. B) go bowling. or c) go commit a mass shooting.

I don't know. But I wish we had the chance to find out.

Seriously, I don't think he is going to quickly just go ahead with his plan, because I would hope it would make him think that someone is already watching him.

But that is a rational thought, and obviously this guy didn't have enough of those.
