Does he really believe he did nothing wrong? I know most of the scum in Washington DC know they are criminals and corrupt. But I have the feeling that Comey actually somehow believes he is a good man.

Conviction in ones beliefs is what keeps criminals persistent.
There was likely an echo chamber that developed within the DOJ/FBI where everyone convinced themselves and reaffirmed to each other that they must to something to save the US from Trump.
