this guy gets it
read this - https://www.climbing.com/news/joey-danger-evermore-7-year-old-on-el-cap/
he didn't "climb" el cap - he jugged up fixed ropes that a team of illegal guides set for him. you can't just roll into camp 4 and hire some heady lookin brah to "guide" you up el cap - there are requirements for guiding. maybe not a perfect analogy, but it's akin to saying "i climbed mt everest bc i did 11,400' on the stairmaster at my local air conditioned gym" (the elevation gain from base camp to summit, starting at 17,600')
this is a publicity stunt for the dad, who btw has never successfully climbed el cap on his own. agree involving cps is probably a little much, but this dude's a kook and he and his kids should be scrubbed from any "records". oh and they also interfered with an actual rescue yosemite sar was working on. The fifth and final night did not go as planned. From the summit, Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR) had begun a lifesaving operation that involved lowering ropes down the mountain; they ordered all nearby parties to halt their progress. The Evermores were one pitch from the top, shivering on a sloping ledge. After a brief debate, YOSAR temporarily paused their operation to let the children jug the final pitch; they were crying and could not withstand the cold for much longer.
One of the YOSAR members remarked that the Evermore brothers appeared to be dehydrated, hungry, and exhausted. At the top, the rescuers shared their own food, jackets, and sleeping bags with the children.

Reading this the climbing “community” sounds like a bunch of gate keeping Karens.
That is a reasonable view from someone that doesn't climb. In climbing aesthetic and ethics are very important. How you get to the top is as or more important than getting to the top because it is an indication of how difficult the process was. I imagine you have heard of Alex Honnold. He was the first person to free solo a route on El Cap. I have free climbed multiple routes on El Cap. I have free-climbed Freerider (the route he used), but it was not a solo (no rope). I didn't lead climb some of the hardest pitches and jugged the crux pitch. What I did isn't even in the same ballpark as what he did, and no climber would consider it even remotely similar.
I should have mentioned that young kids jugging El Cap is nothing new; many have. It has almost always been by kids who were highly accomplished climbers for their age and normally in climbing families. They often go on to be great big wall climbers, Tommy Caldwell that I mentioned is actually one of them.
This was a stunt done for the gram. I have the same feelings about this as some of the people that pay to get drug up Everest.

Maybe, but I don’t take issue with anyone climbing to their ability regardless of circumstances. Did the kid have fun? That’s more important in my view than the approval of other climbers.

I’m in agreement here. EBC is nothing more than a corporate marketing firm these days.
