Was it? Looking at the GDP numbers, it seems it was always on a developmental path. It has always lived or died by oil prices. It's economy collapsed in the 1980's, when it was under the rule of Copei. It's GDP under Chavez grew in a massive way, again mainly because of oil prices.

One is keeping his own money. The other is taking money from others

Why would it not be exactly like Sweden? Any number of factors, and homogeneity not just of race but a singular dominant strain of European culture. But we do share the same general respect for the rule of law and have a history of generally good governance - something wholly absent in all of S America.

Another key difference is most of S. America is in a post-military junta phase, which creates problems the US has never seen, mainly with former enemies working together to set policy in ostensible republics.

In terms of Sweden, their healthcare spending per capita is nearly half that of the US. Most social services are streamlined and families receive a child allowance until they are 16. The municipal councils in Sweden have a lot of power, as they run the local healthcare system, usually with private companies running hospitals, as well as determining who receives welfare and operating the schools. This decentralized system allows for decent enough use of resources.

years ago, future Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders described Socialist-ruled Venezuela as a more suitable exemplar of the American dream than the United States. In an essay lamenting what he described as the intractable income inequality of the American economy, Senator Sanders declared: “These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger.” Despite receiving trillions of dollars in oil revenue over recent decades, Venezuela is in the midst of an unprecedented economic collapse, owing precisely to the redistributionist programs that Sanders has extolled as a model for the U.S. economy. Grocery store shelves are barren, hospitals have no access to vital medicines, rationing is under way, and riots have begun to coalesce in the streets of Caracas.

Yep, seems about right to me. And to your supreme leader Bernie Sanders.

Again, looking at the GDP numbers, it doesn't seem like it is true to say that Venezuela was one of the richest countries in the world. It's economy collapsed in the 80's, when it was ostensibly capitalist, because it relies heavily on the oil sector.

I'm not a socialist either. No clue what your point has to do with mine. From a GDP perspective, both total and per capita, Venezuela has always seemed like a developing economy.

You’re not a socialist, could’ve fooled me.
So what is it that you want to change?

If a government official shows up to my door to take guns, I hope they are wearing a vest.

Once we are disarmed, its all over.

I hope they aren't.

Edit: Not that it matters, I'm shooting to maim, not kill. A vest isn't gonna do you any good with a 5.56 coming towards your jaw.

I'm talking about your assertion about Venezuela being one of the most prosperous countries in the world. Before Chavez, it had a GDP per capita of $3,800. Before it's economy collapsed in the 80's, it had a GDP per capita of $4,700. It has a lot of material wealth, but wasn't prosperous by any stretch. Stay on point.

Still wondering why all these gun owners don’t take their guns to the southern border and put a stop to all the Illegal Immigrants crossing over. If they aren’t willing to even do that then they sure as hell won’t get off their lazy asses for a Civil War.

Why would I do that?

What is the rational?

That’s not my assertion, that’s from Bernie Sanders.
The same Bernie Sanders who advocates for us to be socialist, praises Venezuela, and wants us to be like Sweden. Even though Sweden isn’t entirely socialist.
So now I ask, what is it that your are trying to convey when you continuously say that Venezuela was never a prosperous country, and that no matter if it’s socialism or capitalism it wouldn’t be a prosperous country?
