Cities aim for new taxes, as driver-less cars look to decimate budgets

Typical tax tax tax bullshite.
With new technology, certain taxes become unneeded and obsolete. But rather than say "great, we can save our people from this tax and fee burden" your local municipalities are looking for new ways to tax and fine you to make up for this "loss"
Wired
Luckily, some states are jumping ahead to keep cities from stifling technology. (I find this shocking):
There is a bunch of other liberal tripe (it is Wired, after all. A magazine I love for technology info, but they often ruin it with a huge liberal slant).
They talk about how poor people can't afford autonomous vehicles, but they fail to mention that many people won't own cars and the cost per ride will be very cheap. Also, autonomous buses will be available and cheap.

many cities balance their budgets using money brought in by cars: gas taxes, vehicle registration fees, traffic tickets, and billions of dollars in parking revenue. But driverless cars don't need these things: Many will be electric, will never get a ticket, and can circle the block endlessly rather than park. Because these sources account for somewhere between 15 and 50 percent of city transportation revenue in America, as autonomous vehicles become more common, huge deficits are ahead.

Cities know this: They're beginning to look at fees that could be charged for accessing pickup and dropoff zones, taxes for empty seats, fees for parking fleets of cars, and other creative assessments that might make up the difference.

Michigan, for example, does not allow Detroit, a short drive away from that Ann Arbor ballroom, to make any rules about driverless cars.

I hate all levels of government.

Wtf, no.
Surely it isn’t legal for them to operate without a person in the car?

That's won't create a traffic problem at all.
