Permanent damage being done as China builds long term trade relationships with other countries.
Meh. Maybe. Vietnam is practically begging to suck off the US. One Belt One Road is way more hype than substance.

NOPE. They already have people dying, what they can't tolerate is losing money.

The Republican cheering and open desire for worldwide recession is beyond troubling. Trump is pushing as hard as he can to collapse the American economy.

This is not Maos china, nor is it Tienanmen Square. They have tasted capitalism and they like it. Hong Kong is sending a clear message to the mainland.

They have very large food inflation, while their spending power has been reduced by 13% thanks to dval, and millions have lost their job. Thats not a very good trifecta to be playing.

Member when Russia was the immovable force....I member.

They would not be doubling down on their already onerous trade policies....that have been in place for decades...unless they were experiencing pain, a lotta pain.

Trump was a fool with how he went about this. He is too confident in himself and believed he would break the Chinese easily. He greatly underestimated their resolve which is a bad miscalculation because they cannot and will not sign any trade deal that gives the Americans a long term edge. He also should have gone after them with more world consensus.

Now he’s backed himself into a corner as our economy weakens

Trump is the one who put the gloves on. I am not against holding China to stop stealing intellectual property or unfair trade practices. However, Trumps approach is hurting economies around the world including ours with the trade war.

The Chinese don't have political problems to worry about. They can take huge hits.

Xi is under some real heat from the communist party for his bragging about 2025 china overtaking the US economically and awaking the sleeping giant. He brought this on the country.

Being communist, they could stop the theft, the onerous trade practices, the dumping, the subsidies to state companies to enable predatory pricing, tomorrow. They chose not to....and they chose poorly.

n typical American fashion, we think of the Chinese in the same context as ourselves. The reality is that they would be INFINITELY more tolerant of a prolonged economic downturn than the snowflakes we have here.

True - but our economy is more resilient. Once jobs leave China, it’s going to be very tough to get them back.

Politically, they can tolerate it better. Economically and militarily, it could set them back years.

No baw. Chinas effort to undermine US economic and military power began long ago. We’re just now fighting back.

Their goal is to destroy the US without firing a single shot.

Exactly. The county is way more unified than us, and just as patriotic.

And they can just have Brazil burn down the Amazon to plant soybeans... wait, that's already happening.

I wouldn't say they're more unified than us.

Maybe it looks that way because of the hammer and sickle.
