I had my voter registration card, which I know I showed in the Primary. I may have shown my DL, but I don't think so. Today, I gave them my voter registration and asked if they needed my picture ID. The poll worker said, "Yes, this (my voter registration) is just basically for informational purposes."

I'm all for requiring a govt issued picture ID, but I thought it wasn't required and is viewed by some as a poll tax.

Legal requirement, or misinformed poll worker?

It depends on state

I've always had to present a photo ID to vote

Showing a photo ID is a poll tax?

It’s not required. The cow in front of me showed a frickin utility bill. I’m sure that was an honest vote

Only by people who favor voter fraud.

Common sense tells you that $22 every 4 years for something you need in everyday life anyway isn’t in any way an economic hardship, yet these people will argue that it is. Don’t even get me started on the mental gymnastics they resort to when you propose free ID for the indigent.

Isn't something similar to that required if you don't have a DL? How would you vote if you didn't have a DL in La?

I’m not the downvoter, but you can get a state issued ID that’s not a DL. Same cost as a DL.

If you don't have a DL you shouldn't be able to vote.

Is it necessary to have it to vote in La.? I'm pretty sure it's not in Ark.

It's legal identification for poll purposes.

Louisiana is sadly one of the few places to get it simple and right. DL preferred. Proof of residency valid. If you're not on the roll. They'll send you to the right precinct. I think they may provide a provisional ballot if your residency is in the precinct but aren't on the roll. But that's only for federal elections and is easy to toss out if ineligible.
