Massive, partisan gerrymandering of Congressional districts makes OP's idea a poor one.

Won't be needed except on the house level.

Dems will win every single senate and presidential race in purple states with mail in voting.

GOP can only hide for so long. Only to blame themselves for being GOPe

2 votes to state winner and each county gets 1. Done.

Well, no. There aren’t enough EV’s to go around for that.

frick em all. There are no 2 parties anymore.

Our electoral college system was designed with zero parties in mind. It certainly is not a function of a two party system.

Now nothing is stopping places like New York, Los Angeles, etc from becoming megalopolis'. Basically large masses of people voting as a block telling the country what to do.

It's a horrible problem and getting worse.

I'm sure DC statehood is on Joe's first hundred days agenda followed shortly by Puerto Rico and Guam.

I like the way Nebraska and Maine split their votes. Whereby electoral votes are based on who wins congressional districts with two more votes going to whomever wins the most districts instead of a winner take all.

I like the winner of the state's popular vote gets the two senate electors, while all others are based on congressional districts. The Democrats would never agree to this because it would turn some blue states to red, or at least make the states more competitive.

We need to be sucking Mexicans dicks in the streets for any future hope here. Mexicans are good people and you probably have never been around them if you think otherwise.

Most are great, just want to work and put food on the table for family. We have more in common with them than any Democrat other than the language.

Ironic that Rhode Island was one of the biggest proponents of the electoral system in order to not be overwhelmed by the large states. Now they vote for a group that will make them as relevant as San Jose.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. It makes a lot of sense, IMO. You still have the same number of EVs for each state, so small states maintain their level of representation. It would force candidates to appeal to voters nationwide, while also keeping true to the intentions of the Electoral College.

The only real drawback is the issue of gerrymandering. If you think the redistricting process gets contentious now - imagine if it affected the House AND the Presidency.

It makes too much sense, which is why it will never happen as it would pretty much end blue monoliths like California, New York, Illinois, and the Pacific NW.
