Oh I agree. As you know, I was quoting ABC News. The Comey diary leaked is a POTUS worried about a career military man and taken out of context. Because McCabe told Reince that the Russia investigation was BS there was no there- there, days before.
(As well as Comey and many others said there was no. 'muh Russian's' evidence) Comey also, in sworn testimony on May 3rd said no one impeded the investigation.
So POTUS asking Comey this very thing, (in the time frame of the meeting with McCabe) makes more sense and it is a lot less nefarious.

I think it's pretty clear that Comey needed to go. The FBI under his leadership has been a politicized sieve of felony leaks and his handling of both HRC and the Russian probe has been a fricking dumpsterfire.
If we can't all agree on that, then something is seriously fricking wrong. Trumps only mistake there was not firing Comey sooner.

Chaffetz wants Comey to publicly testify concerning the subject he discussed with the New York Times. I think most people want this actually. Chaffetz is concerned that existence of a special counsel/special investigation is going to prevent Comey from public testimony. Not sure Chaffetz completely trusts Mueller's independence with respect to the Comey part of this investigation.

He did a hell of a lot more than not fire him sooner. He praised him, then vilified him, then praised him again, then kept him on after he took office, then pressured him to drop an ongoing investigation, then fired him when he refused and claimed as his reasons things that happened LONG before he stopped praising him.
