It's kind of hard to blame the general population for being absolutely ignorant on Syria when neither Presidential candidate could give even the simpliest of answers on the subject.

Why would this surprise anyone?
Just so we fully understand the hilarity/stupidity of our foreign policy, let's break this down historically:
- Russia invades Afghanistan in order to set up a proxy Communist state.
- The United States supplies money and weapons to the Mujahideen to fight against the Communist.
- The Mujahideen defeat the Soviets and reclaim their country. They morph into Al Qaeda and enlist the help of radical Muslims from around the world in their jihad in Afghanistan.
- Al Qaeda and Bin Laden destroy the World trade Center on 9/11 and cause the Afghanistan conflict.
- Al Qaeda spreads its radical Islam jihad to war torn Iraq and Syria.
- Two other radical terror groups pickup where Al Qaeda left off: ISIS and the Taliban.
- Russia is now aiding the Taliban in a proxy conflict against the American forces in Afghanistan.

to be fair, the Taliban didn't "pickup where AQ left off". it's been there for a long time, before and after AQ. OBL kind of merged the goals of the 2 for his own personal benefits (primarily protection), iirc
and yeah this is just an arse fricking of a foreign policy
i give more credibility to flat earthers than i do the Obama admin re: Syria and ISIS
