Can someone please tell Doug Collins running for GA Senate this year is a very bad idea?

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins will soon announce a challenge to U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, setting up a bitter Republican showdown in November that pits one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal defenders against a wealthy former executive backed by Gov. Brian Kemp.
Collins, who is set to be at the Georgia Statehouse on Tuesday, has started to line up campaign staff and call politicians and supporters to inform them of his decision to enter the race, according to several people who received the calls but requested anonymity to discuss private conversations.

The GOP is facing several difficult races with McSally in Arizona, Gardner in Colorado and Susan Collins in Maine and they do not need to double down on Georgia and make sure democrats don't squeak out a win in Georgia of all places thanks to a boneheaded challenge from the hard right.
Furthermore, there is no partisan primary in Georgia this year for special election that Loeffler is running in and Doug Collins could make a mess of things and possibly help the democrat win outright.
I like Doug Collins but he needs to back off. He lost the appointment after he failed to convince the Governor and he needs to get over it and wait for a better opportunity.

Trump will offer Loeffler a job somewhere so she will drop out to avoid any split in the Republican party. Loeffler would never be able to beat the Democrat - she is an empty pants suit.

He will do no such thing. And that's reality.
If Trump endorses, he will likely go with Loeffler on Mitch's advice. Trump may have wanted Collins but he's the leader of the GOP and he has a duty to put his party in the best position to win elections.

Doug Collins is causing the split by choosing to challenge the incumbent and he is doing this after he failed to convince Brian Kemp to appoint him.
He needs to get over it, run to keep his own house seat in the R column and continue to be an advocate for the President in the House.

A challenge from the right is making that harder, not easier.

Doug Collins is hard right and he would agree with that.
And I'm saying that as a matter of fact, a true statement. Nothing positive or negative about it.

There are a couple of challengers to Texas Senator John Cornyn. I support him being challenged and having to answer to Patriots in Texas. He is an old school RINO and a Mitch lap dog in the mold of how Lindsey Graham was with McCain.
The candidate I'm thinking about supporting is Dwayne Stovall. The guy is a legit conservative and patriot.

Cornyn will grind any challengers under a boot heel., probably without much-noticing that they are there.
Loeffler is still new at this, and challenging her from the Right in an open (non-partisan) special election is just an invitation to Roy Moore 2.0

Good thing Cornyn is no threat to lose his primary. We do not need to worry about Texas being a competitive Senate race on top of the presidential election.
Just absolutely foolish you want to risk making Chuck Schumer the Majority Leader for a purity contest.

Correct.
The President as leader of the GOP has a responsibility to endorse Loeffler and make sure this senate seat is not a competitive race come November.
He needs to be more proactive in stopping foolish challenges from the right in states that are trending purple.

Trump once endorsed Kris Kobach in 2018 primaries for Kansas Governor over the safe incumbent republican incumbent that would’ve won comfortably.
Kobach lost to the democrat in the general election that year.
Trump has a big problem rewarding loyalists over backing the candidate that can win the election.

Remind me who has announced to run against Loeffler? Joe Lieberman’s unknown son, Ralph Warnock, and Ed Tarver?

You moderates are always good for a laugh. Doug Collins should run for the U.S. Senate, and Doug Collins will run for the U.S. Senate.
And, Doug Collins will win.
PS - Don't worry, Sentrius. This still isn't nearly as bad as when HHTM started a thread about 15 months ago or so and claimed that President Trump should be a one-term POTUS.

So is this broad like McSally? Appointed to a seat while she is a terrible candidate and will automatically have a tough re-election?

Meanwhile that’s less money and resources to spend on tough races in Arizona, Maine and Colorado and that could help democrats steal one or two of them.
Great idea.

The only way Doug can win is if the partisan primary law gets enacted by the Georgia legislature that the GOP speaker is trying to get passed and Governor Kemp will veto that and the votes are not there for an override.

There will be a viable dem challenger in Georgia by the time the election rolls around.

Loeffler has committed 20 million of her own frick you money to defend her seat and that is going to be a big help but considerably less so with a challenge from the right in Collins.

Appointed to a seat
And Collins is being a sore loser over it.

A challenge from the right makes it even tougher and it’s a bad idea.
