Never be ashamed of yourself. Never try to pretend you’re something you’re not. Don’t take it personal when someone pokes fun at you (poke back). Don’t be defensive, just smile and don’t laugh. If someone wants a fight, give them one they won’t forget. Don’t instigate, but don’t back down from a challenge. The more you run from conflict, the more conflict will follow you. Authorities are useless.
I wish more high school kids understood this and took it to heart. I was a goofy weird kid, but I always owned who I was. I got picked on but I never let it get to me.
I think most of this goes back to parenting. Teach your kids to be comfortable in their own skin.
And the "ant-bullying" campaign has turned into a massive outright bully campaign.

You can do everything you're telling kids to do and some of them are srill going to grt bullied relentlessly.
What's your solution?
Because of some severe extreme outlier cases we should attempt to fundemntally transform how children have behaved since the beginning of time? I refuse to accept that.
This world is full of tragedy and you can find an example to fit any hypothesis you come up with.
But if 99% of kids make it out of high school ok, we shouldn't change how we behave. Can we do more for the 1%? Absolutely. But does it have to be at the constant expense of the 99. No it doesn't.
No matter what we do there will always be suffering. Always. We live in an imperfect world. Accept it.
The fact is that if you are lower middle class on up in America, then you are living the the happiest, richest, most intelligent, most educated society in the history of planet earth.
This pretend notion that we should absolutely fundemntally overhaul our society because of outliers is fricking insane. And it will absolutely lead to societal collapse.
You should be free to be comfortable in your own skin. But I should not be forced to accept or outwardly celebrate what makes you comfortable. There is a very important and very distinct difference there.

Or his anger builds up and he gets a glock and shoots him in the fricking face.
So you pass 0 tolerance bullying laws.
The kid that was bullying him gets expelled from school for being a kid.
He's now a drug addict. Gets a glock. And goes back and shoots up the school.
It works both ways.
