The person I replied to said they were going to a South American prison, though. How do they get from El Salvador to South America if they never get out?

I have some healthy caution about private prisons. You can sort of squint and see how this would go: the inevitable end game is criminalizing more behavior to necessitate greater demand for prison facilities and our government is mostly bought and sold by major corporate lobbies...

In 2015, El Salvadors murder rate was 100 per 100k one of the worst in the world. In 2024 it was 1.9.

All Americans should be outraged. The prison system should be reformed but sending American citizens to a foreign country… that’s wrong on many levels. The idea American citizens would celebrate this shows the lack of basic humanity. Regardless of what the offender did ( I’m sure many will try to make it personal) doesn’t change the fact there are laws and basic rights for all Americans.
