Bud Light Buying Back Unsold Beer as Company Scrambles After Backlash

Newsweek
Bud Light's sales have fallen for more than a month since April. Anheuser-Busch sold $71.5 million worth of Bud Light in the week ending April 29, a 23 percent drop compared to a year before, according to data from Bump Williams Consulting mentioned by CBS. Sales volume for rivals Coors Light and Miller Lite were up by 17 percent and 15 percent, respectively, in the second week of May.
Now, Bud Light is reportedly buying back unsold cases of its beer that have gone past their expiration date. At the same time, the brand is leaning back on commercials that focus on themes like football and country music, hinting a return to its core customers. Bud Light's sales are higher in rural and conservative areas of the country, and its consumers are predominantly white men.
In a statement sent to various media companies, including Newsweek, last month, Anheuser-Busch said of the deal with Mulvaney: "Anheuser-Busch works with hundreds of influencers across our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across various demographics. From time to time we produce unique commemorative cans for fans and for brand influencers, like Dylan Mulvaney. This commemorative can was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public."

This statement isn’t really applicable considering the REAL damage happened when the AB VP started shite talking her own customers.

Good luck trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

This might have been manageable if they had taken quick action.
At this point, they either need to sue their crisis management firm or they need to fire whoever said they didn’t need one / ignored their advice.

But they made their point.....support the abnormal.
It has absolutely nothing to do with business, so why do these idiots waste stockholder money to make stupid points!
ESG will fail miserably, I gaurantee that.

I wish I was as confident as you.
The failures of a lot of big but not “too big to fail” banks combined with the likes of Blackrock owning big chunks of these companies is a bad combo.

They’re so protected in their bubble they genuinely didn’t think anyone would take issue with it.

They sent it to an "influencer" to get their brand publicity. They knew exactly what the frick they were doing. Their refusal to own up to that (actually their DENIAL of that) is what is killing them now.

True.
But I still maintain that the bigger problem isn’t them doing it, it was the stupid bitch VP pretty much telling all their existing customers to frick off and they were moving on to the alphabet brigade.

They just don't fricking get it.

They can do all the football and country music ads they want to make up for this, but I think people will see right through them.
Drinking Bud Light is now a cultural stigma. There’s no coming back from that in the short term with a few commercials.

And they still dont get this teke, which is absolutely astounding.
The CEO should have done an apology add a month ago. Then start running spoof ads of him walking up to a porch with a bunch of baws apologizing and handing them a cooler of beers and asking them to come home. Showing him awkwardly trying to fish or hunt or chew tobacco. Making fun of him not understanding his consumer.
Hell put him in one ad in a tu tu and have the porch gang laugh and say "naw thats what got you in trouble in the first place", rednecks and the lgbtq crowd alike would laugh at it.
Instead he is running like a scared dog and his entire consumer base sees it.

Yeah, the CEO’s word salad statement only made things worse. Then they tried to shift the blame over to some outside consulting group.
They really kept expecting everyone to move on.

My kid graduated kindergarten last week, can I get his face on a can to “celebrate a personal milestone”?
My mom beat cancer this year, can we get her a commemorative can to “celebrate a personal milestone”?
No?
Why not? Those have just as much to do with beer as some grown arse man pretending to be a 13 year old girl for a year. Ohhhh, only certain personal milestones count?

But the libs around here told us this would all turn out to be a big nothing burger. And they are never wrong. Surely this is just more fake news.

If Bud Light would have handled it better, the fake outrage would have not made it far into May. This shite happens all the time and the companies are either not affected, or better off later on. Bud Light went out of their way to alienate the customers that made up almost their entire customer base, ignorant white men.

Look at how mad you are that yet another one of your incredibly stupid progressive beliefs is being universally rejected.
Again.
