Here's what I think happened:
- Some idiot saw that garage rope and thought it was a noose.
- That idiot tells others and words start to spread quickly. Maybe even media are starting to hear about it through a game of telephone.
- NASCAR overreacts before they know what really happened and decides to take on the defense of Wallace instead of just giving a realistic explanation.
- Now NASCAR has their PR team seizing this opportunity and knows that it's too late for them to put the genie back in the bottle. They hope now that they can just wait out the news cycle and people will move on.

75% it was an idiot showing off to his friends but if that's the case someone will tell it. The odds are dropping by the day on that since to this point no one has come forward that has been publicized. Knowing and keeping silent puts someone in the line of fire BTW. And going up slightly that it was a third party leftist trying to make a statement (15%) or actually someone on the Bubba team (10%).
Edit to say there are likely very limited people who have access to his area and I'm sure there are camera's someplace. Bottom line it would take a dedicated fool (and highly pissed off as well) to fabricate then search for the Wallace pit area and take a chance on getting nailed to do that. But there are all kinds of people. Did the person hide it in a sack? Etc. Video should show someone with a parcel approaching his crew area.

Good point. How many people would go public without looking at the item too verify it? I'll tell you how many. Zero if Wallace was not someplace far away. And why hasn't Nascar released pic's of it if people are in such denial that it actually happened. You know they have it. So show it and release the statements and name of the person who found it. I expect all that to happen since there is now controversy. And to put that to rest they need to act. I'm making it maybe 65/35 legit since who would do this with a career in the balance.

So the cameras were pointed the other way, Bubba didn't actually lay eyes on the noose, no photos have surfaced of the noose, and the FBI has no updates on day 3 of the investigation...
