Turkey and Russia have always had beef.
the russians wanted to claim constantinople for centuries and the turks are well aware of that

Please elaborate.
Khazaria was a semi-nomadic Turkic state that emerged in the late 6th century and thrived until around the 10th century. In Tucker’s interview with Putin , Putin framed the current Russia-Ukraine conflict as part of a centuries-long historical narrative, stretching back to the early medieval period. He began with the 9th-century formation of Kyivan Rus’ under Rurik, a Varangian (Viking) figure, and wove a tale of Russian statehood that included interactions with various peoples and entities, including the Khazars. Putin then mentioned the Khazars as part of his broader historical justification, implying deep-seated regional rivalries.

That part is true.
Turkish-Russian rivalry extends back to the 1570's. I don't know what intersection they have with the Khazars (likely none) but this definitely is a very old rivalry. If not for NATO, it is likely that the Turks and Russians would have already fought a modern war this century, given their behavior in Syria.

Most likely on the side of Russia.
Tinfoil hat, they come in as a "peace keeping force" but are on the side of Russia, antagonize Ukraine, get attacked, invoke Article 5.
That will be fun
You should write for the WWE! That is a great heel turn.

Russia most likely would have captured Constantinople in the Crimea War if Britain and France had not intervened.

I don't think so. Why would Erdogan would not come to the EU's aide after they have kept Turkey out of the EU for decades?

What if Putin is covertly welcoming a Turkish offensive and he counter strikes with taking over Istanbul?
You know he values the Bosphorus (sp.) passage bigly.

I don't think they have the ability to do that at the moment.

Turkey is quietly getting more powerful in the geopolitical world. They were 100% behind the ousting of Al Assad a couple months back. They want to play a major role in geopolitics in Europe and especially in the Middle East. They haven’t felt this good about themselves in a long long time. I feel like an Israeli/Turkish conflict is currently brewing too.

The Israeli's seem to think so.

Are not IDF forces occupying Syria right now? There are many in the Likud Party (Bibi's party) that have this ideological goal of "Greater (banned from saying this word)" and that includes a small part of Turkey.

That kind of conflict would be much worse than this Israel-Gaza/Hezbollah/Iran war has been IMO. Turkey is far more advanced than Iran is. Just as nutty, but with actual weapons, and actual training.

They are trying to. They also are suggesting that Russia keeps it bases in Syria. The Turkish-backed forces took Manbij but were repulsed from Kobani. We will see how it plays out.

They also have far more claim to the region than the Iranians do. For a long time, NATO served as a hedge against Turkish ambitions, but the refusal to do technology transfers finally pushed the Turks to invest in their own defense industry, with some decent results.
The Turks are just so much larger than the IDF that it is hard to see anyone other than the Turks winning left to their own devices. Hence why Israel is lobbying the US so hard. The major advantage both Russia and Israel have over Turkey is nuclear weapons, but the wildcard in that is Pakistan, who could provide a route for Turkey to have their own nuclear weapons.

So our Greatest Ally and Russia see a common enemy in Turkey? If so, wild times.

I think the IDF only occupies the southwestern portion of Syria. Basically from the Israel/Syria SW border, to the outskirts of Damascus.
I feel like both Israel and Turkey have this idea of an either “Greater Israel” or “Greater Turkey”. And eventually those ideas will or have already clashed.
