There would be virtually no deterrent to local public corruption without the federal judicial system and LEAs. Yes, there needs to be some serious reform as well as some heads rolling at the FBI, but folks on here who call for the abolishment of the agency are trying to throw out the baby with the bath water.

So, exactly where does the State fit into this scenario? Is there no responsibility on the State level? Much of what this mayor did was probably already covered by a statute at the State level...
Not advocating for the abolishment of the FBI (it needs serious reform though) but it is not the Federal Government's job to keep local government in line...
