Why don't you respond to what I'm actually saying to you instead of repeatedly insulting me? Nothing I'm saying here is different than other posters, yet here we are.

I have. You're just not listening.

That's okay with me. Vote NO and keep everything exactly as they are...

All I'm asking for is transparency in spending. The general fund has been abused in the past. That is my only position.

I believe in unicorns, too...

Have you voiced your concerns to Mayor Edwards or his staff?

If so, what did they say?

Again, the entire premise of this thread is that it's a bad idea, yet you keep coming after me personally. And yes, maybe transparency in spending is wishful thinking, but we should have standards of accountability on what is done with our money.

We're talking about thousands of dollars taken annually, and if I refuse to pay said fee, my home will be seized by the government. Yes, I care where my money goes.

Speaking of delayed issues...

Deadline extended for St. George to fully take over city services from Baton Rouge

Government services for St. George residents were supposed to completely transition from East Baton Rouge Parish to the newly incorporated city last week, but that deadline has now been extended a little further.

St. George was set to take over public works, infrastructure maintenance and 311 from the city-parish on Oct. 15 but will now cover those services for its residents starting on Nov. 1.

St. George officials did not answer questions about why the deadline was extended...

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards' assistant chief administrative officer, William Daniel, said St. George will continue to be charged for the services the city-parish provides. With each request for service, Baton Rouge officials work up an estimated cost and, if St. George approves, the work is completed and St. George is billed, he said.

After the new deadline, the city-parish might provide at least one service for the new city going forward.

"We may continue to provide maintenance of the traffic signals," Daniel said. "However, we would be compensated for the work."

Me, too. In fact, I've decided I'm going to vote Yes 16 times on the Thrive proposal on election day...

Yes, I have.

But that decision has been made.

Don't be a sore winner...

So, if Coach Edwards & Dwight Hudson are liars, then why did a majority of St. George voters vote for Edwards & Hudson?

I don’t believe anyone is lying, and I do believe Thrive is probably better than what we have now.

Could it be better? Sure, but you made a good point about it being a compromise. Sometimes you have to accept the bad with the good.

I voted for Sid because he was by far the best candidate. I didn’t vote for Hudson, wrong district; however, I do rate him high.

Sid has helped SG. There’s no issue there.

The SG administration needs to concentrate on doing what they are mandated to do, and quit with the planning of a new civic center.

Agreed. It's a good start.

Now on to BREC...!

I think he's an excellent CP council member. He represents his district well.

That's a new one on me. I hadn't heard about that.

As I recall, one of the big selling points by the incorporation leaders was that SG wasn't going to need to build an expensive city hall office complex.

One of the organizers, I believe it was Murrill, said something about renting space in vacant store fronts in a strip mall to contain city offices, or something like that.

Frankly, I was impressed by that idea.

Did I dream that and why did the plan change?

They floated an idea about building a civic center. Nothing like the RiverCenter, but a building to host groups.

They have offices now for basic services. The Civic Center is different.

Look it up on the Business Report.

Now that they passed a new law to shuffle the commission which changes the leadership maybe we can get something done.

:fingerscrossed:

Cynical me thinks Sid Edwards didn’t include BREC in his tax transfer plans because someone convinced him that would have caused the proposal to get voted down because he would lose the votes of a certain demographic of council members who use BREC as a minority full employment agency.
