It was the WWII generation that elected LBJ and created the welfare state

You can barely run for president at 43, the vast majority of politicians from 1980-1990 were greatest generation era.

The boomers didn’t end the Cold War any more than the millennials caused the crippling government debt.

I take your point, but it is my contention that the cold war was largely economic and as both consumers and producers in that economy, the generation definitely made a significant contribution even if not directly in a leadership role negotiating with Gorbachev and Eastern bloc leaders.

And I am not sure why you refer to AOC. There isn't a fortune 500 CEO with less power than house rep that is nothing more than a noisy gong. To my knowledge she hasn't cosponsored a bill that has sniffed passage.

I was born in 64, the last year of the boomers. I can't speak to anyone else's situation, but no one gave me anything; I worked hard to build a career, home, and family. The real issue is that the government sold out the middle class to cheap overseas labor decades ago. Get off the interstate and go drive through any large town/small city, and you will see hundreds of shuttered manufacturing facilities. Those factories fueled the middle class and their local economies

Are his is the answer. It just happens to be that the majority of Congress are boomers. They sold us out and it’s killed upward mobility for millions.

Because they royally fricked up nearly everything and millennials and zoomers are tasked with piecing it all together. They took the greatest boon in human history and warped it to what we see today. They aren’t all bad. My father is an exception, but the ones in charge? frick em. It’s time for them to release their grasp of power so we can undo their disastrous policies.

AOC is a young and influential socialist Democrat.

She’s being groomed for a run for president as we speak and while I think she’s a sock puppet the socialist DNC base could easily have her running that party within a decade.

I always say there are many wonderful and selfless boomers of which many post here; however, as a hole they are fricking greedy entitled generation. They have sucked up all the resources by passed policies that promote only their interests and fricked all future generations. The only redeeming thing is that they can’t take their fortunes and $10k purchased house (now worth $2.5M) with them when they die.

That should not be a problem.

I'm 65 and recently retired from full time employment. I have a nice nestegg to live off of.

But if / when I decide I need some extra pocket money, competing for a part time job with people from younger generations won't be an issue. They lack work ethic. I don't.

Boomers let the far left take hold which has us on this negative anti-American path. They put up no fight.

Now GenX and after will have to figure it out once they retire off.

Because they have been de incentivized to work because of the bullshite policies that your generation have set up. Go to college and come out with a $150k in debt that you will never pay back, now go start a family and buy a $400k starter house with your $80k/year salary. Oh, you can’t do that, send your wife to work so that you can scrape by with a total household income of $120k/ year.

You guys had zero student debt because a part time job could pay for college. You were able to buy cheap housing. And most of your wives didn’t have to work so they could raise your kids without sending them to child care.

Yeah these kids just have no work ethic. I’m a Gen X so I’ve got no skin in the game and can call balls and strikes.

It's just another thing the Left is using to divide us. These Gen Z'ers and Millennials grew up in the era of Participation Trophies and a sense of entitlement. They've been coddled all their lives. If the boomers are guilty of anything, it's failing to parent the way we were parented.

I'm Gen-X and don't quite have the disdain for Boomers that some do; however, they had it pretty easy compared to what my Zoomer kids will have. A regular factory worker could afford a 1,500 square foot 3/2 fairly easily in the 70's and 80's. My kids are going to have to work twice as hard to have half as much.

The problem is, they expect to start with 3000 sf with a pool, not 1500.

I'm 65 and have never owned a 3000 sf house. I do have a pool, though.

Steady-on man. This has been a rare, constructive thread. No need to be terse.

Yes, I was able to pay for my own college education through scholarships and part time work.

I paid that forward by paying for both my daughter and son's college so they didn't have to work. It was an investment in their future, and it has paid off.

Cheap housing? I bought my first house in 1986. 30-year fixed rate interest was 11.5%. You probably cannot even relate to an interest rate that high.

The bottom line is, smart people figure out how to manage in the here and now and not blame the previous generations.

Unnecessary.

I do concur with your opinion that housing for young people is a major obstacle to financial stability. Our first starter was about 1200sf and was about 80K in the early 90s. My daughter and husband bought a 3/2 that's about 1,800sf for 350K in North Charleston. That's a pretty big jump in 30 years

Well, it’s arguably the most important topic moving forward. Millenials and zoomers will be forced to remove a 100 year old entitlement system that was always destined to fail, to remove big business from buying homes meant for young families, artificially inflating housing across the country, forced to remove The Great Society and the disastrous family destroying handouts that crushed the social fabric all while being called racist and bigots, be forced to remove disastrous globalist policies that destroyed the manufacturing hub of the world, and remove Congress’ ability to get rich while selling out our country and putting the world before our generations and our kids.

So yeah, it’s kind of a big topic. Now saunter off to your cruise ship and your summer homes you bought for hundreds while we navigate a world of economic landmines you fostered all while being called lazy and entitled.
