In a preceding report on the investigation into the two suspects in the Skripals poisoning case, Bellingcat and its reporting partner the Insider disclosed the identity of one of the two suspects. The person travelling under the alias of Ruslan Boshirov was identified as GRU’s Col. Anatoliy Chepiga, recipient of Russia’s highest state award.

Bellingcat can now report that it has conclusively identified the second suspect, who travelled to Salisbury under the alias Alexander Petrov. We already produced evidence that “Alexander Petrov” is not an authentic persona, but an undercover alias for an officer of a Russian security agency. In a later report, we established that “Petrov” was specifically working for Russia’s military intelligence, the GRU.

We have identified “Alexander Petrov” to be in fact Dr. Alexander Yevgenyevich Mishkin, a trained military doctor in the employ of the GRU. Furthermore, multiple witnesses familiar with Alexadner Mishkin and his family have confirmed to us that he, like Col. Chepiga, is a recipient of the Hero of Russia award, which is bestowed by a special decree by the Russian President.

[Putin murders dissident in foreign country]

MbS: Hold my beer, I will literally murder my dissident in my consulate and fly him out chopped up in little bags

It’s like a despotic arms race

I wouldn’t call Skripal a dissident. He traded Russian intelligence for money.

So the country that aided Obama in spying on Trump, now has 'proof' that Russians did this?

I hope you can understand how one could have doubts

And Putin wins. It’s kinda like 9/11 in a way in that bin Laden absolutely won the day and changed the course of history to the detriment of the West. Putin is playing a long-term, intelligence 9/11 to undercut the legitimacy of the West and it’s working swimmingly well.

I'm sure Bellingcat and myself would be mortal political enemies based on ideology, but the level of his investigative work is incredible.

Go to the chans. Rob’s post is probably pretty PG relative to what’s being posted there.

I thought I was pretty clear
quote:

Bellingcat is a website founded by the British citizen journalist Eliot Higgins.

And it was a London based spy that set up Papadopoulos

And it was an Aussie diplomat they used to entrap Papadopoulus

And they used a Brit spy (ahem, citizen) to try to get to Page

And it was a former Brit spy (ahem, citizen) that wrote the dossier

And they also used a Brit minister to get the dossier to McCain

and now this. I'm pretty sure their neck deep in shite right now with Trump, and this 'investigation' is more about propaganda than reality, like that dossier

Good grief it’s a team of people and they are not all British. You’re a wee bit paranoid.

Can we ever trust anything the Brits say ever again?

Putin is playing the long game. His political future never comes into question (for quite obvious reasons). I'm not advocating for abolishing presidential term limits in the US by any means, but not having to worry about the short term is what gives Putin and Russia a decided advantage.

Our administrations must act quite quickly. Basically nobody in a generation outside of Trump has been able to accomplish much in their first term. Second term, the gloves can come off, but by that time, the opposing party usually has enough strength built up to cause significant disruption to the agenda.

Putin doesn't have this issue. He's an old KGB dog who just has his opposition framed or murdered, so he has the luxury of playing the long game.
