Boris Johnson is expected to formally open trade talks with the US before he begins discussions with the European Union, the Telegraph has learned. US diplomats believe the Prime Minister is poised to seek Cabinet authorisation to open trade talks directly with America on a visit to Washington next month. British civil servants have drawn up advice for ministers on the “pros and cons” of starting trade talks with America before beginning them with the European Union, the Telegraph understands. A UK government source who has seen the advice said the argument for going to the US first is to show: “We mean business and we’re not messing around.”

Yes, I stressed "unilateral" because 90proof is going to spend a week telling us all how bad that is for the country.

China,USA,South America,Mexico, etc are anxiously awaiting the UK, and others to leave the EU.

They have a shite ton of goods to sell, and are happy to engage in talks about buying and selling.

While his is likely good for the US, I wonder if it is really best for Britain.

Instead of being one of the senior members of a large trade bloc, they basically become an economic client-state of the USA.

You're talking out of your arse again.

You act as if GB does this that the EU will just cut them off and not trade with them.

Your TDS is affecting your judgement.

Trump should request the extradition of Steele and Hannigan as a prerequisite to any talks. The British intelligence services committed acts of war against our Republic.

Fiat Justitia, Ruat Caelum.

Not only that, I imagine they will be using some previous framework in order to negotiate rather quickly, as negotiating trade deals from scratch take upwards of a half-decade.

I neither said nor implied anything of the sort. But a unilateral trade agreement with the United States will certainly mean that the United States would become Britain’s largest trade partner, regardless of whether they continue trading with the remainder of Europe (which clearly they will do).

I neither said nor implied anything about Trump. It seems to me that it is YOU who is obsessed with the man.

Senior member of a block you just fired yourself from?

Not sure putting most of your eggs back in that basket would be best.

You are commenting from afar on a situation that the UK has real, not theoretical, experience on for the last 20+ years. They are much closer to the ground on this than you. Their call.

It’s like we’re building a new free world trading bloc to stand against communism, except this time it’s the US and allies against globalism and China

You know literally nothing about the details of any US-UK trade deal.

Nor are you an economist.

Nor are you a diplomat.

Yet you make a definitive pejorative assumption about an as-yet-to-be-announced trade axis between two sovereign nations.

Stop.
