A person who gets pneumonia due to covid and dies should not be counted as a covid death. Do you not realize how stupid you sound?

No… because fricking pneumonia killed the person… not the Covid. Geez y’all are fricking stupid. Pneumonia can get triggered by literally anything…. Yet pneumonia is the killer. Not the freezing rain someone sat out in, or the head cold turned south.

People have died of pneumonia for centuries. head colds can cause pneumonia

What gets the death stat? Pneumonia or head cold?

There is truth to this. My friend’s Mom had hernia surgery and then got staph....

She died from a staph injection, not hernia surgery.

Eh. You’re dancing past this. That’s cool. You’re rational about it. We just come at it from different starting points.

I understand your perspective and agree that there have been substantial deviations from standard practices when it comes to determining and recording cause of death. I tend to be a purist myself in other ways. I just think that the nature of this pandemic is so unique in modern history that making adjustments in the face of that threat makes sense. Statistical probability rather than certainty is a reasonable approach to estimating over impact. They should just be more honest and transparent in so doing.

I'm going to need to see your CV. You can redact the name and anything that might ID you but I need to see your training.

So pneumonia deaths just happened to jump by 300-400k at the same time as COVID was impacting a large segment of the population? What other causes of pneumonia suddenly got much worse than they have been historically? What alternative do you suggest for preventing the pneumonia deaths that would have been more successful than reducing the spread and severity of the virus?

Well if you have bilateral pneumonia with ground glass opacities and consolidations, with peripheral distribution, progressing to ARDS - it’s probs Covid. Let me know which part of that you need help with.
