This is one extreme of the euthanasia issue, which is obv abused.
This was the obvious end result of "medically assisted suicide."

For the elderly who are demented and suffering long term debilitating chronic systemic failures, euthanasia should still be a plausible option.
"Let's just use it for people we wouldn't otherwise let make medical decisions for themselves."
Just admit you are wrong and move on. I'm sympathetic to the idea but it is obvious that we do not want "health professionals" entrusted with this ability.

Seems preferable to forcing someone else do it. Would you feel comfortable being the one to push the plunger in and ending it all for some kid going through a bout of teen angst?
Correct. If you want to off yourself then do it. The government and medical community should have no hand in it.

Obv, "medical professionals" can be wrong.
Doesn't mean that euthanization shouldn't be off the table for those with dementia, Lou Gehrig Disease, and a host of other issues that lead to a very long and painful death.

Unfortunately, yes it does. When you open this option up to insurance companies, cost-benefit ideas come into play in situations where they should not.

The patient described his life as ‘joyless’. He felt very lonely, was deeply unhappy and derived no enjoyment from anything. He was unable to connect with peers and find where he fit in in society, and felt misunderstood by others.
So a normal teenager?

Should the state be complicit in a 13 year old girl killing herself after her first break up? Is there a cool down period we should force her to wait or can she call it a life if she is still really sad after 3 months? 6 Months? 9?
